  1. Notts coalfields is your answer which were originally owned by Dukes who lived in the Dukeries. The pit folk who lived there addressed the Duke as My Duke or slovenly - miduk. The Dukes lived in Thoresby Hall, Welbeck Hall etc and the employees in the rows of pit houses built for them by The Dukes. Gradually the expression has spread from the pit villages to the whole area known as South Notts Coalfield.
  2. Remember in The Gods there was a wire mesh fence fronting the balcony - it was about 18" high . was it to stop dropping things on the audience below or was it to help prevent fans falling over the edge when they got too excited. Saw Lonnie singing Rock island Line. On the same show was Bill Maynard (comedian) We lost him earlier this year, I think it was. Always 2 halves to the show and both followed a similar format. Dancers, Jugglers ( etc) singers, comedian and lastly the star, who everyone had really come to see.
  3. The Palace at Bulwell ( now Wetherspoons) was where we got in for next to nothing. As a gang of 5 ten year olds+ we clubbed together to raise the 5d to go in then one would pay and go in and once inside go to he gents, push the emergency door open in the gents loo and let the other 4 of us in.
