  1. Maybe Westfield will buy it back at a bargain price...
  2. I voted for Thatcher and against her. I voted for Blair and against him. To blame either for whatever we may consider they did wrong is simply a generalisation and doesn't stand up to close scrutiny. Every government in history has made mistakes, future governments will be no different. Holding on to a grudge and resentment for 30 years is not only a waste of time it is likely to colour our judgement of the present and future.
  3. I was with you all the way there Col until you just could not resist having a political dig. I was going to post a riposte but I'm manfully resisting until I see it on the proper channel …
  4. Were the restrictions lifted and somebody forget to tell me?? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53165918
  5. If I remember right wasn't she a rotten singer?
  6. There was as CT says no central heating and in winter ice formed on the inside of the windows. The fire in the lounge had a back boiler for hot water only, most days we had to run some water off because the tank in the airing cupboard was bouncing around when mam had the fire so hot the water boiled. She was a bugger for burning the back boiler, grate and side cheeks out fairly regularly too. The 'coal house' was adjacent to the back door and it was my job to count the bags when we had a coke delivery. I stood on the backdoor step and the coalman would say "four", next bag would be "seven
  7. If you apologise now Jill in advance it's over and done with. You can then out and create mayhem with a clear conscience!
  8. I see we're fishing again today RR... anybody biting?
  9. The furore over this annoys me. There's nothing illegal about it, nothing advocating violence, it's a simple statement - white lives matter. Those who are pontificating and displaying their outrage and claiming the moral high ground need to think about the ramifications of denying peoples right to voice their opinion .

    5G or not 5G ?

Wattage doesn't actually exist, it's a measurement of power. Microwaves (domestic) work by exciting water molecules to creating heat. Human bodies particularly eyes and testes are vulnerable for the same reason. In this instance it's the frequency that counts although any radio wave given enough power will be damaging.

    5G or not 5G ?

It can be instantaneous LL. The U.S. military has an 'Active Denial System' that uses radio waves to produce an intolerable heating effect in anyone caught in the beam. It uses a frequency only slightly higher than the top end of the 5G spectrum though the present 5G handsets are nowhere near this limit. I think it has been deployed in Afghanistan.

    5G or not 5G ?

I thought mine was reasonably quick. Mobile 41 and PC (hard wired) 92, (Ookla speedtest) - but over 600 is impressive... When Virgin came to install it the guy had a 'works phone' and showed me a speed of over 200. I think Virgin and the rest have a special server they connect to when testing just to impress customers. The measurement as far as I can see is 'burst' speed, not sustained. Whilst people may have oodles of capacity downloads can only go as fast as the server you're connected to can send it. A more realistic test would to download, not stream, a film and

  18. Must be a 'man' thing, I went for a haircut back in the late 70's.....went home with a HiFi setup... and no I didn't my hair cut. Second instance, went to deliver a birthday gift.... went home with a motor bike... I can resist anything except temptation...
  19. I remember a service station (Keele) on the M6 had those! I was beginning to think I had imagined them, no one else seems able to recall seeing such things. The were produced by Ross frozen foods and wall mounted just above the fryer. They looked like a big tin with a handle attached, pull the handle and long stream of 'potato' was extruded into the chip basket - tasted horrible.
  20. Compared to the Wimpy bars of the 60' (toasted buns, no microwave) the modern day burgers are bland rubbish. I don't like relish, or mayo, or cheese, or anything other than a bun and a beef patty. The best one was top of St James St. The secret of MacDonald's success, according a franchise holder I knew is marketing, portion control and 'sides'. They sell far too many to used substandard meat. It's claimed when Macs opened on Clumber St they had seats designed to prevent you lingering too long., I don't know if it's true but they were certainly uncomfortable.
  21. And in other news the seller also has pigs in pokes, "It's cutting me own froat guvnor but this weeks special is buy three and get two with free delivery". He also has several very low mileage vehicles previously owned by vicars wives...
