  1. I can only presume you are not a smoker. Sweden has not banned smoking in cars. The only ban I'm aware of is where there are children under 18 in the vehicle. As an ex heavy smoker I can tell you from vast experience that smoking and driving is far less of a distraction than listening to the radio so lets ban that. CD players? well drivers may be tempted the change tracks or disks so they'll have to go. Sat Navs? you're having a laugh. The colour red makes you aggressive so ban red cars. We're on this forum because we like a bit of history, a
  2. 'Performance Art' reminds me of the 60's artisitc 'happenings'. It was stupid then, it's stupid now. It's usually some talentless individual trying to make a name for themselves by doing something outrageous to attract attention. As a form of protest it's non-violent and he manages to publicise whatever he's protesting about but how he managed to organise it without someone noticing and stopping it is hard to fathom. Like the Spanish guy and the fridge I'd fine him AND make him clear it all up
  3. Think about it, what would be so wrong about a hog roast at the Colosseum? I doubt Romans of 2000 years ago went hungry whilst watching lions snack on a few Christians so it would be historically accurate to sell refreshments there, it already has vendors selling all kinds of tourist tat.
  4. I agree entirely Fly, there is no excuse but if they encourage more visitors than they can provide facilities for then there will always be problems. Crumbs will be spilt, ice creams will be dropped and wrapping paper will occasionally make a break for freedom, it's a fact of life. Google for images of the steps and see what they have in the way of litter bins, rest areas, sun shades, - zilch, zip, nada... nonna has pointed out recently it has been as hot as hades in Italy, I certainly wouldn't attempt climbing 136 steep steps in that heat without needing to pause, catch my breath and ye
  5. In the case of the Spanish Steps the clue is in the name - they are steps. Steps are for people to walk up and down. These are particularly famous steps that tourists are encouraged to visit, with considerable success, so he authorities cannot reasonably expect visitors not to need a place to stop, take a break, admire etc and not provide facilities for people to do so. Looking at pictures there is nothing there. No seating, no shade, no water fountain so of course people are going to sit down, especially the older tourists. They are not sitting because they are the Spanish Steps, they sit bec
  6. I have some sympathy nonna esp with dogs and leaving litter but sitting on the steps? they want to be careful they don't bite the hand that feeds them..
  7. Someone pass the mind bleach I'm overloading with mental pictures here... EWwww
  8. "Ullo dahlin, get yer kit off n I'll give yer a quick coat of Dulux emulsion wiv me roller- any pertikler shade you like"?
  9. Went to the garage this morning to have new dash cam installed. It's very discrete (tiny) and you need to view the picture on a smartphone. All good and I reversed slowly out of the bay knowing full well there was a Mazda sports car close by but it obviously didn't register. Looking at phone and pressing buttons I was just in time to record myself gently scraping down the back wing of the Mazda. Stupid new tech!
  10. You, you mean you can't......... nurse.... NURSE!!!
  11. Improbability is alive and well and all around us. It is highly improbable that you will win the Lottery. It is also equally improbable your neighbour will win. The lottery is won regularly, therefore It is probable that someone will win. If we keep looking long enough and eliminate the improbabilites it's probable we will come across the next jackpot winner.... now you can pinch his ticket
  12. After all that time and 'work and walk through the pain'... not impressed Margie...
  13. Good point LL, never thought of that.
  14. My cousin who lived South Africa told me they bought Geckos to put in cupboards to keep the insect population in check. I was never sure if he was pulling my leg..
  15. The building to the left was an electricity generating station and there is still some 33kV switchgear operating there today.
  16. The probability of a cat in a box is actually 1/2 but your story is more amusing..
  17. Looking at the featureless mess they made of the Market Square I think you're right..
  18. Ah bless his little cotton socks... so much hope, so little chance..
  19. We've discussed this before. In Nottingham at the time they were demolished they were not considered beautiful, just old and out dated. I'm far from being a fan of the planners but have to admit they don't have a crystal ball and could not see the future value of areas like Broad and Narrow Marsh. Hopefully today's lot are a little more enlightened.
  20. Look up Schrodingers equation and you will be able to calculate it if your hypothesis holds...
  21. Is it not ironic the recalcitrant Alexa is considered female? She may be behaving herself now but wait awhile and you'll probably be listening to the Archers..
  22. Put 'em together and they can argue it out between themselves
