  1. Ah bless his little cotton socks... so much hope, so little chance..
  2. We've discussed this before. In Nottingham at the time they were demolished they were not considered beautiful, just old and out dated. I'm far from being a fan of the planners but have to admit they don't have a crystal ball and could not see the future value of areas like Broad and Narrow Marsh. Hopefully today's lot are a little more enlightened.
  3. Look up Schrodingers equation and you will be able to calculate it if your hypothesis holds...
  4. Is it not ironic the recalcitrant Alexa is considered female? She may be behaving herself now but wait awhile and you'll probably be listening to the Archers..
  5. Put 'em together and they can argue it out between themselves
  6. The Daily Worker was a communist newspaper in the 50's/60's. I think it morphed into The Morning Star some years ago..
  7. There was one to a customer who was the only Daily Worker reader on my round. In my innocence it never even occurred to me to ask what the magazine was about. I'm not quite so innocent now..
  8. Found it. Quote from the specification for the new London Routemaster bus, provided to the manufacturer by TfL:
  9. I thought that at first but not convinced. Looking at it if the bus is on its side that window is over the stairwell, how would they reach it?
  10. I seem to remember that system back in the 70's. A big flywheel under the floor, a bit like a gyroscope. The bus had the usual diesel engine that spun the wheel up and the inertia was then used mainly for acceleration. The was also a system of regeneration whereby braking fed energy back into the flywheel. The gyroscopic effect was supposed to help with stability as well but as anyone who has ever played with one knows there is some delay in reaction time. The flywheel helped with acceleration it's true but was so heavy it became a system of diminishing returns and the end result on ener
  11. I wonder what the grab handle is for?
  12. The degree of upset when a pet dies prevents me from ever having another. My commiserations jonab and hope you gain some comfort from the fact she did not appear to suffer.
  13. The trick I found with Sunday papers with supplements was to raise the door knocker, jam the paper in vertical and knock to let the customer know. I have to say though in my time the supplements didn't go to the silly extremes they do today. This was of course conditional on the whether there was an Xmas box. No pressy then ease the paper in 'open end' first, try not to rip it but make sure it's well and truly jammed. If they rip it getting it out it 'aint my fault is it? My round was for the Allens the Clifton Village paper shop delivering round the Thistledown Rd area. Alwa
  14. Good for you and more power to yer
  15. Sounds a lot more civilised than the local Lidl where for some reason shoppers think it perfectly OK to open boxes, look at the contents and then just walk away and leave them lying around.
  16. Now there's a mental picture to conjur with. Ben in skin tight fluorescent Lycra head down bum up pedalling for all he's worth...
  17. I think maybe this topic should be renamed 'Inverted Snobs R Us'
  18. The 10/- licence was for all radios, as far as I know car radios did not require a separate licence. Radio's in cars were (I think), covered by the household licence so were not transferable when the car was sold. The new owner needed to endure he had a his own licence. Radio licences ceased early 70's. Smart motorway cameras 'look' both ways and calculate average speed. The ones on the gantries can 'see' over the center reservation to the opposite carriageway so it doesn't matter which way you're travelling. They are always in pairs and must not be closer than 200 met
  19. Why not? What is sad about it? I don't understand why some are narked by the fact a car has private plates. Is it ostentatious? yes, so what? Are the dislikes and the disparaging remarks inverted snobbery? yes they are. At the end of the day it's simply personalisation, much like dressing in bright colours or wearing a beard.
  20. Seems to me there two sorts, those who can see the humour in some plates and those who can't. I and at least one other on here have private plates and quite honestly don't give a rats A... what anyone thinks about it.
  21. I think we're a bit overdue an update Trogg. How are thing after the the 'op
  22. Did you see the curvature of the Earth or the edge of a disc?
  23. I'd be tempted to let the local authorities see that Compo, if it's significant it may be they are patching the wrong side of the dam.
