I've been twice, think you need a few weeks to see it all! No wonder they have tours.

I like graveyards, though a lot of people think it's odd. I see them as full of history, not morbid at all. I loved the cemetery in Haworth and the central cemetery in chorlton manchester. It's vast, keep me visiting for a long time.

I had a crush on Steve merrick! I sent a request to him and he played it! I stayed home to listen and was in trouble with my sister, turning up late for a shopping trip.

That was very interesting. I lived near there, ilkeston road, in the 70's.

When I was 17 i found pills in my mums bag, it's hard when you realise your mum was planning such an awful thing. That's a long time ago, but it hurts that she would have left me that way.

I lived on gawthorne street in the 70's, with my mum and sisters. Haven't seen it for years!! There was a shop at the top of the street, owned by ted, he weighed me a quarter of sweets once and took one out because it was over the weight!

Gosh that's a sad story. I remember it was one of mums favourite pubs, we lived in hyson green when I was born, her whole family did, later we moved to bilborough, but her heart never left hyson green, I remember all the streets you mentioned. i know my grandad, my mums dad was invalided out of ww1, not sure about the details.

Does anyone remember the grand pub? I think it was in the hyson green or Radford area.
-
They still do sausage meat sandwiches? As i remember the cafe was famous for them. My mum used to work there in the 70s and i used to babysit for their daughter, Avril? April?
-
Does anyone remember the mill cafe on bobbers mill? Run by the West family?
-
I lived in Newstead a few years ago and was amongst the first staff to work in the new branch of peacocks on the high street. Is is still open? I know it was sold to Edinburgh woollen mill and a lot of branches were closed down.

I believe they were part of a big family. Kathleen was originally a yeatman. Had a lot of brothers and sisters. Jack, Maude, Les, Evelyn, Harry, he was a Soar. Married to Irene.
-
Does anyone remember these? They moved from hyson green in the sixties to Bilborough. He was a conductor on Barton buses. Sometimes went to the beechdale pub or the Grand in hyson green.

Thank you Benjamin 1945. Feels good to say it after all these years. As an adult I would probably like to know about his time in the war, I didn't know why he had a bad leg. Think all our generation had fathers or uncles who fought in ww2. My uncle died of fever in a Japanese war camp.

Hi Terence, I remember Mr Auckland. He took my class sometimes for RE. One day some of the kids told him I hadn't joined in something or other he had set up for us to do. I was very, very shy. When nothing happened I heaved a sigh of relief. But as we all passed by him at the door when the lesson was over, he took my hand and gave it a stinging slap. All the kids gathered round me asking if I was going to cry. I hid my hand and stoically shook my head. I'll never forget him. An adult man slapping a little girl. Like to see him do that now!

Hi catfan, You left soon after I started, but my sister's went there for a while. Pat and Margaret. Mr oaks was very much my favourite, English was the lesson I enjoyed. Always top of the class. Wish I had known about the reunion I would have gone for sure. I had a look at my old house on Google a while ago. Really strange seeing it again.

You remember Mr Terry! I think I was only in his class when Mrs lomass? Lomax wasn't in. She was scary. I remember so many names from those days and wonder what happened to everyone. Pity there wasn't any school reunions, not that I know of anyway. I remember Karen froggatt very well. She was funny and very kind to me.

I was at John player school 1962-1974. I lived in Bilborough. I remember Mr oaks was the English teacher. My favourite. There was a miss parsons too who taught us girls dressmaking. And Mr Terry. Think he was a maths teacher. I loved English. Hated maths.

When I was young my mum used to take in lacework from Birmingham. The house would be full of lace and loose threads, like my sister's I used to join in to earn some pocket money. I was ace at making lace dollies. Well aged about 7, I thought I was!

Pamela soar was very shy, I think. Think there was a family called Sharp lived on deneswood. My dad lived on highwood till about 1979.
-
Wow brilliant reading all those familiar old places. Takes me back! I live in Manchester now this is a good place to call in on when I'm homesick.
-
Who would have Soar for a surname! We lived on highwood till about 1971, I think. One of the soars married, think she still lives in the area? Don't know what happened to the others.
-
Pamela soar, yes. Did she have sisters? We lived on highwood avenue for a while and i remember the name being mentioned by my mum. Funny the things we remember.
-
This soar family were mostly girls, no brothers, I don't think. There was a pamela and a marilyn, cant remember the others. I'm sure at least one of them went to John player school.
