  7. Same here Phil. I went to Arno Vale and was also in the swimming club for a while. What was amusing / annoying when we walked from Arno Vale to the baths we walked past my house on Arnot Hill, but when we'd finished swimming I had to walk back to Arno Vale past my house, then walk back home again. Tried a few times with different teachers but no one would let me drop off at home.

  10. There were quite a lot of record players in the 60's described as portable, including Dansettes, which I had one of. What they meant was easily transportable, compared to to the earlier large case record players, but still needed plugging into the mains. Phillips made a battery powered truly portable player as below,
  11. Beekay, This is how Google define the Lace Market, seems to be about right within the red dotted lines.
  12. This fact-checker appears cast doubt on the 100000 figure, maybe more maybe less. That assumes the fact checker is to be believed. Who fact checks the fact checkers?? https://fullfact.org/immigration/labour-forced-to-accept-100000-migrants/

  15. On a Facebook group some people are complaining that the clock has had lots of parts removed, a fraction of it's size was a term used. Someone snapped a couple of people working on it the other day, someone else suggested scrap men. Photo credit Nick Button

  18. As Brew plus,, WHEN the next Pandemic / Natural or Unnatural disaster hits, I will expect all the "Experts", Critics and others who claim decisions were made too late / too early, too much money was spent on the wrong things etc, to be the first to hold their hand up and volunteer to get us through without a life lost or a pound spent in the wrong place. They will find what an impossible job is is to manage such an event without criticism, even with them even having the benefit of "mistakes" made with the Covid response. What the future Pandemic etc managers w

  21. MRS B, Maine was at least the 500th Mass shooting this year, Mass shooting usually being defined as more than 3 deaths (may have been upped to 4 now). My Son, Daughter in Law and 3 Grandchildren live in Arizona. Whereas in the U.K children would practice Fire drill over there they practice Active shooter on the premises. In my oldest, 17 at the time, Grandson's school late last year they had an alert and lockdown when someone suspicious was spotted on CCTV. with what looked like a rifle but turned out later to be a camera tripod. After a full Police attendance and sea

  23. Never had tablets for B.P. In more recent years my blood pressure had always been in the 130's at annual checks at the G.P. and from historic GP records. I signed up for the Our Future Health Study in the Summer and had checks including BP for that. First one was 157, they put that down to being in a medical environment. Second reading was 151, so they recorded that and recommended I do regular checks for a while, morning and evening. I'd bought a monitor years ago, the type with the bulb hand pump, used that and was getting anything from low 130's up to
  24. Well, I never went to said place but I have noticed on various threads that most of the drinking places in the Lace Market seemed to be in the same small area, possibly connected with drinks licence availability. On the link below there is a long list of establishments, it may be, in fact probably a certainty re licences, that Steves bar was a former or later of one listed. https://scenebeforeinnottingham.wordpress.com/home/places/clubs/
  25. My Son works near Darley Dale, the A.6 at Darley Dale / Rowsley was closed after lunch today, it's where someone got washed away a couple of years ago. This was Chesterfield this afternoon, where it usually floods. Yes, the person in red is riding a bike through the floods.
