  1. B-K, yes the link Rob put up, this is what you see. You can rewind and see historic info, This was the C.17 leaving yesterday.
  2. I followed the C17a from when it was near to landing at Edinburgh, caught it by chance. Then later as it took off, then again as it neared Northolt to land, but didn't follow the middle bit of the flight.
  3. Just got Covid jab invite and have booked for this Saturday.
  4. I'll wait till I'm invited for a Covid jab as I'm due a follow up PSA blood test soonso don't want too many holes in my arm and don't want to confuse the testing.
  5. I've declined a Shingles jab. I've got a Flu jab booked at G.P in early October. I've not been offered a Covid boost yet.
  6. Think it depends on which century you were in, seems to vary slightly over the years;
  7. Re the Silver / Black hearses. I've just found the reg number of the second hearse ,WP 3283 and it will be no surprise that DVLA think it's also a Silver car. I'd guess that black cars were specified and the silver hearses had a black wrap hastily stuck on them. As the hearses and funeral directors were "Operating under the Lord Chamberlains authority" and were part of a Police Scotland convoy then I doubt any offence of not notifying colour change has been committed.
  8. Maybe this explains the uniform.
  9. I saw the sticker when the hearse first emerged and thought it odd that such a prominent sticker was on display,,, to hundreds of millions of people around the World. The only time they stopped was at 1.00pm ish for refuel / food / rest and anything else they all needed to do. Must have been removed then.
  10. There was spare /backup hearse, same make / model in the support convoy to the rear with another Police Motorcylist wearing Black, not high Vis. Also included ambulance, Police minibuses and the obligatory mysterious blacked out vehicle with the driver and front seat passenger in plain clothes wearing partial facemasks, not the Covid / NHS type.
  11. The Queen visited twice in 1955. First in May 1955 to Officially open Holme sluices flood defence. Then again in July 1955 to the Royal show in Wollaton Park. (Can't find any other details of the route.) I remember standing on Middleton Blvd and Wollaton Road corner near the shops watching them go past, at the time we lived just off Wollaton Rd. Interestly whilst checking the dates I found that Princess Margaret went down Calverton pit in April 1954.
  12. Quiet Quitting, new one on me. Google seems to suggest it's nothing to do with quitting but a term used when employees decide only to do what they are paid for, nothing extra. Would that include NOT being on the phone to friends and NOT being on Social medias? Presumably the "Quiet" is not telling anyone (your boss?) that you are only doing what you're paid for. But presumably that excludes announcing it to the World on Insta, Twitter etc.
  13. Not me, C-T. But I don't have any objection to it being on for those who do want it. I assume people who aren't Royalists / in favour of a Monarchy and are employed will be working as normal on the likely to be announced extra Bank Holiday on the day of the funeral. Even the planned strikes have been called off.
  14. The U.K GOV must have terrific powers over World / Independant broadcasters as there are many showing only Queen related programing and others returning to it regularly. Here's channels I can see at the moment, there will be many more; Full content; BBC1 BBC2 BBC Parliament BBC 24hrs news channel ITV News Sky News GB News Bloomberg (financial channel) Euronews France24 News(English) Talk Tv Returning regularly to Queen based; CNBC NBC NDTV Aljazeera
  15. (Off topic) My Parents had all the ceilings re boarded and plastered, all the concrete paths and driveway re done and other bits, all subsidence damage and paid for by the Coal Board.
  16. I remember Arnold baths with cubicles either side and I think it was Boys / Men on the left and Girls / Women on the right. I used to go from Arno Vale and went occassionally later but probably only very early 60's. If the cubicles moved then I'd guess it was probably when the junior pool was added on to the side and the main pool repaired, yet again. I think Gedling pit may have been responsible for the almost continuous leaking.
  17. Without doing any googling the car above looks to be Fiat / Alfa ish.
  18. B-K There's a post gone missing, was there earlier from Tcell which quoted your Collette post Aug 2 2019. I don't remember any connection between that and the post it was on.
  19. Mrs B, The main Sorting Office was on Huntingdon Street including the Central delivery office. The Head Post Office Counter was originally the Stately building remembered by Alpha which was vacated by the Post Office when the lease ran out. They built a new Main Post Office counter in the car park of the stately building on Queen St. The sorting Office moved to Beeston and the Central delivery office moved into the former Post Office vehicle workshops next door, formerly the site of Shipsides Car Dealer
  20. Even if it was Judge, Jury member or Defendant that was ill and the trial suspended, I'm sure it would have been announced. As you've said, nothing appears to have been reported after the 26th. I've tried using VPN and searching in Countries outside the U.K in case there were restrictions here, but nothing shows any later than the 26th.
  21. After using the latest (free) high tec image manipulating software available to me,, Paint 3D We have an approximation of the location in todays surroundings, Bearing in mind the older image was taken at probably a couple of thousand feet and the modern Google image was taken from around 350miles up.
  22. Denshaw, I saw reference to that name in the link below, that's neither of the 2 names I know of so must be a 3rd daughter Pictures don't work in the link. The one I posted, found elsewhere is not one of them as it's too old. https://stuartfrew.wordpress.com/2021/05/01/leapool-redhill-nottingham/ Update, found the thread, Rachel was born in the mid 70's and mentioned Grandad Hawker so she's most likely the daughter of one of the 2 sisters that I remember, Helen and Maria, The aunty waving is probably the one from my year at school.
  23. Hey Arnold If you've got a high res copy of the map then please post it, the copy I've got was just a photo someone somewhere took and posted. I can't remember where it came from. Leapool cottages I suspect were where the Filling staion / Restaurant are now. In the 60's I remember it as Hawkers Garage (one of the daughters was same year as me at Arnold High, the other was a couple of years younger) That was demolished in favour of the filling station but was probably built on the site of the cottages. Old map showing unnamed cottages overla
  24. Re posting images, you need to sign up to a free (at the moment) image host site like Imgur or Flickr or similar, then up load images to there and copy the link it creates to post on forums etc. Is it the same as this low res one?
