When we lived in California, we found Albertsons carried a full line of imported English cheeses, found they also sold crumpets too! Locally baked near Sacramento. The wife was hooked on crumpets with lashings of butter and topped with a spreading of Bovril! Delicious. Opposite the airforce base on Watt Avenue was a little restaurant called "Touch of Britain, run by two ex pat Brit ladies, speciality??? You guessed it Fish and Chips! They also run a shop selling all Brit food imports. Do a Google for Touch of Britain. Pier 9 also sold some Brit foods like Jacobs Cream Crackers. But Sacramento has a large ex pat Brit community.
Wow mama! Just had me crumpets & Bovril. Think I'd better seek out Betty Ford's Phone number.

In the 70's On Maid Marion way near Friar lane was a Company called ATCO (finance?) with a similar motif.
Is it the same company?
Haven't found anything yet. Still looking though.

Bisto now do a Chip Shop Curry Sauce that is quite authentic.
The old Theodosi chippy back in the 80s next door to the White Horse (the bobbo) did the best ever curry sauce had bits of apple & currents in it.
There used to be a chippy down Alfreton road on the left near the old cinema run by a Jamaican fella. We all used to pile in for red hot jamaican patties, chips and curry sauce. Not for the squeamish the following day when it's been mixed with 10 pints of Trophy bitter from the Windmill in the Lace Market.

What's the brand name of the curry sauce. I must get some sent over. It's been a hell of a long time since I've had some on me chips.

I cook mushy peas quite regularly but can't get them to the standard of those down at Vic market.

Has anyone tried to convert the locals to the delights of cheese & onion cobs and mushy peas. A lost cause methinks.

Went to a barby last year and took fish fingers, white bread and HP sauce. Did I get some funny looks.

We can get quite a lot of British stuff including Bovril but as you say it's a trite expensive. Mind you I nearly wet myself when I found chocolate Hob Nobs. Never seen spotted dick but there's a British butcher 1 1/2 hours drive away where we can get faggots.

I could do with some decent black pudding. The stuff here in Oz is a bit ordinary. In our town there is a eatery which serves aussie food, but on the menu is liver, bacon, onions, mash & gravy. Food of the gods. Although not British I fell in love with grape jelly jam in New York. There's a American shop across the other side of Melbourne so I'll have to go and stock up.

Only just spotted this! Afaia, Atlantic handled Stax releases up until a certain date, at which time, all the Stax stuff thru Atlantic, came out on blue Stax
Then of course when things started to go pear shaped, CBS came into the mix.
Whatever Hurts You - Mad Lads a great track. Also anything by Jeanne & The Darlings.

The SD part of the catalogue number is only on the front of the sleeve. My original copy was the same but with a blue background. This could be a recent pressing, never thought to ask as I was running out the shop whooping and hollering. Thanks for the Coasters info, I'll check it out.

Talking of things 'Staxy' I was in New york in September and went into a record shop in Greenwich village. I was specifically after Apollo Saturday Night recorded on November 16th 1963. (ATCO SD 33-159) I had it in the 60's but it was nicked. This fellah just walked over to the rack - flick, flick, flick, here you are sir $30. A steal. His website says that he has 1,000,000 records. I think there was a couple of hundred thousand in the shop. Wall to wall vinyl. If anyone is interested, the place is called House of Oldies. The website is:- www.houseofoldies.com
By the way the Apollo Theatre is awesome and sent shivers down me back when I walked in.

I had to go into a certain establishment on Glasshouse Street to have an 'Ailment' attended to. When I came out a great cheer went up from the builders on the Vic. Centre site.

I had a pair of those yellow 'TUF' work boots and sometimes wore them with my suit. I suppose it's up for debate whether they looked cool or stupid. I thought they were the dogs.

Reliant Regal Supervan. Always incorrectly called a Robin Reliant. There's no such thing as a Robin Reliant. There's a Reliant Robin, but that wasn't a van, it was car ;-) Being the smallest i used to get to ride in the back bit. Imagine them allowing that now!
No it always called a plastic pig. All my cars in the 60's, 70's 80,s were and still are adverts for scrapyards.

I used to go to the Rock nights that they had at the Astoria in that era.(First thursday of the month IMMSC) Grahame Neal was the D.J. there too
Remember when he used to play Nellie The Elephant - Toy Dolls which resulted in a huge pile up in the middle of the floor.

Went down to see REM on the recommendation of Graham Neal on the Castle Rock programme. Michael Stipe had shoulder length hair then. Strange. Then again so did I. Also saw UFO and Rory Gallagher. Did anyone go to the Heavy Rock nights on a Friday? Why did so many people refer to it as a Heavy Rock Disco?

You're right about the racism. It seems to come naturally to them. Try telling them the're a sub species of the English. That seems to hit the spot. I thought Thomas Cook one of Paul Weller's roadies? Go the Pies.

Thanks Beefy for putting those images on the site. Hopefully I will come home for a holiday next year and will go up to Wilford Hill to put some flowers on the grave. I used to tell people I work with that the great Edwin Starr lived in Nottingham and then........ I saw him at least once at the 'Beach'. Thanks again.
