  1. I found an old wooden box and after dusting it off I wondered if our Ben ever had to unpack these. lol
  2. Here is an example of a Sherry Schooner Glass.
  3. DJ360 I must have seen you about during those years as they were my favourite pubs as well. Your right about the coffee it was rubbish, I bet you also went in Bulwell Youth Club when it was first opened in the old building at the rear, great times.
  4. Waddo my parents use to say the same thing to me when I was younger. Don't we all do the same now, I do to the grandkids.
  5. It was a Tanner in the juke box when I use to go in the Penguin, it was for the same reasons. lol
  6. thanks for the photos Nonna, now I will go and have my dry biscuits and cheese, I much prefer those, I must do the wife told me.
  7. Being old fashioned and Politically incorrect my wife is the dearest thing that I have, I daren't think about the cost, if I did I would be using her Christmas present.
  8. My dearest wife has spent a lot of money on my present and its on something I will eventually use. Being a down to earth born and bred Hucknalite she doesn't waste money and I hope there isn't a hidden meaning in my present. She gave me this large envelope and in it is a Prepaid Funeral Plan, whilst thankful for this I hope I don't use it for a long time yet. LOL
  9. A merry Christmas to you all, may peace and happiness be with you in the future., I look forward to seeing you all next year.
  10. So pleased she is improving, I have missed her posts on here, especially the ones with photos of food she has prepared, I wonder what delights she is preparing for Christmas.
  11. I also thought the shortest day of the year was always the 21st but after reading this https://www.telegraph.co.uk/christmas/2019/12/20/winter-solstice-uk-2019-shortest-day-pagans/ I was surprised to find it varies, just a bit of useless information which wont make any difference to my life, its still a dark dismal time of the year.
  12. Are you sure they are the words you used.
  13. I am with the majority on Christmas presents there is nowt I want, if there was I would have all ready have it ordered. Christmas, if your not religious, is for the children. The only thing I like about this dismal time of the year is that it is close to the 22nd the winter Solstice . The days will be getting longer and new life will soon start, both plant and animal a fantastic time of the year.
  14. Welcome to Nottstalgia Bill, there are a few of us on here that grew up on the Old Bestwood Estate , we would love to hear some of your memories of the area, keep posting.
  15. Ayeupmeducks your slipping, that is a job for the wife, it gives them a day out with their friends. lol
  16. What is a luxury and what is essential, its different for different people at different times. In the 50s and 60s central heating was a luxury out of reach to most people, now today for me its essential. To some people a pair of shoes is a luxury beyond there dreams , need I give more examples . Some people want more, just to satisfy there desires if they can afford it why not, it makes not difference to me. People are able to pursue there interests which costs to me a fortune, its up to them, me for example would never spend any money on watching sport but on other things no hesitation, my
  17. Jonab and Jill you are right, two of my grand children when they visited use to go in my garden with me and I let them eat plums apples and pears off the trees, and also tomatoes cherries strawberries ( not all at the same time) and their mother use to run out in a panic each time "wash them first". The worst was when they picked peas and ate them straight away, I always use to forget to tell them they had to wash them, I was never in her good books, but kids have to experience all many things in life.
  18. I can remember a Mr Skilbeck as head of Greenwood when I started there in 1958, sounds like the same man.
  19. Not my first time flying but the first time flying in a light aircraft. Two weeks after my grandson gained his pilots licence on his 17th birthday he took me up for a flight for an hour, I had to pay hire fee. Was I worried, you bet I was , squashed up in a noisy uncomfortable space with a very thin floor between me and fresh air, him all happy and telling me what to do if the engine failed and gleefully pointing out places of interest. Was this the small little boy I used to carry about and now my life depended on him. We landed and as I had been bumped and banged about so much I couldn't mo
  20. The unforgettable sights and sounds of a steam engine pulling off from standstill. A memorable piece of film.
  21. Waddo you make me feel even older, like your Dad I can remember getting 4gallons for a pound in my mini. lol
  22. Headlights on Audis, earlier this year mine was damaged in a bump the replacement was £800 plus labour.
  23. Happy birthday Jill, I am sure your day will be purrfect.
  24. Ben do yourself a favour and don't even try and understand modern cars, I was ok with them but not now. I have just changed my car again 2nd time this year, the last one was bad enough but this , it seems a regular job now to ask my son to come and put right my dash panel. Too many switches stalks and menus . All I want to do is drive it and not have a light show inside and a robotic voice rebuke me for not doing things right, I get enough of that at home.
  25. I just had a message from Ben, he is just giving Nottstalgia a miss for a bit ,but sends his regards to everyone especially the Ladies. He dose not change dose he.
