  1. NonnaB I understand your frustrations but these things will sort themselves out and the medics have your best interest at heart, keep your chin up and smile , we are all thinking of you.
  2. Pleased to hear your settling in after your move up North, you will find they are a friendly bunch despite the rumours of the heathens up North. I am positive someone will recognise you and want to renew friendships, be careful though some Northern husbands can be a handful. lol
  3. Wives have words sometimes that leave with no doubt on the error of your ways. LOL
  4. I managed a shuffle out to my garden this morning and saw that the peas had fattened up and the French beans were ready, together with some very first new potatoes, I asked the wife if I could have some with some salad for my dinner. Come dinner time the new potatoes tasted like those from years ago and the French beans were tender and tasty but no garden peas, she told me there were very few in each pod. I thought this strange so this evening I ventured up the garden , looking at the peas left and all the pods seemed to have plenty in them , but have not filled out yet. I found in one corner
  5. I am too embarrassed to tell you how old the wife tells me what I behave like, I don't care I just don't let her into my fort again. Smile its the best tonic.
  6. NonnaB you have not monopolised this topic , you had problems and you told friends about them, that's what friends are for, keep on posting. I was not going to post my problems but I put them on after another posting, we all deal with things differently. I tend to keep quiet about things and do things my way , its best for me for others its different , we all should do what we want and not just to please others. I have told my wife not to worry as if the worse happens she will receive half of my pension, she never replied to that , but I am still in the spare bedroom nursing my injuries
  7. LizzieM I promised you chips on Wednesday so I will be there to get them for you, cant miss a day out now I have permission from the Boss to go out.
  8. Thanks for your confidence in me being reasonably fit Cliff Ton, its picked me up no end and proved the wife wrong, she keeps telling me sit down and stop gardening . I have just cancelled an operation for a reversed revision on my right shoulder so I can have my left Kidney removed ( cancer ) on Thursday . When that's over back to the shoulder op, then my GP is going to sort my spine out, already had the MRI on the spine that's how they found the kidney problem, but the main thing is I wake up of a morning smiling and proving the wife wrong.
  9. Its my 52nd next month, and she still understands me and puts up with me.
  10. BK as Plantfit says it needs more than a day to take it in, the last time I went you purchased the ticket but it allowed you to revisit free that year, so if you are staying in the area you could return , whilst you are still there to continue your visit.
  11. Beekay, Beamish is a great day out, a 680 mile round trip I don't know about . If you travel that far there is so many Castles , fantastic country side , beautiful beaches , historic Cities and towns but most of all great people. Well worth a week or two visit , can you tell its one of my favourite areas.
  12. I can see Compos picture of Kimberley best bitter it is the first picture of his that I seen for a long time . all the previous ones are blanks.
  13. I believe that they are vents for the old Nottingham Suburban railway line tunnel, some years ago I saw a photograph of one of the vents in a residential rear garden.
  14. Beautiful birds, but I admit to make nasty comments to them when they visit my pond, I sometimes remind them, never politely , that it is not a restaurant.
  15. DJ I know how you feel over itching I have had it for years, I too have tried all sorts of creams etc , and nothing works for long. I have changed washing powders, softeners, soap shower gels type of materials I wear you name it, I have tried it. In the end I just cope with it , when it is at its worst I just use any type of lotion that cools and soothes the skin. I gave up with my GP on finding the cause and solution, I believe it is a side effect on the medications I take, as annoying as it is you do learn to cope with it. I hope you find relief soon, I try to look on the positive side of it
  16. Happy birthday Carnie , may the cream cakes be numerous.
  17. I thought this might interest old Bestwoododians it is a photo of a Street party on Leybourne Drive on VE day 1945 with the Bankings in the background. I found it on the Facebook page of "Nottingham Way Back When" posted on 23 April. There is over 100 comments on it, even I can remember some of the family names in the comments ,I wasn't born then, then memories it has brought back well worth of a visit to the page. Has anyone else photos of street parties where they lived.
  18. I think the best lesson learnt from the article is Don't kiss men with beards , you might catch something.
  19. Ben don't shurrup with your reminising , you reminded me of the park and reignited memories. The fun as a teenager and friends now gone with the "antics" revived. The picnics with my sons on there spending most of the day there, no cash to go on away days but they preferred all day on there and only 10 minutes walk from home. Then taking god children on there for more of the same and finally the showing the grandkids the Jewel of Bulwell. Our forefathers have to be thanked for providing all of these parks throughout our City and County and long may they last. Nowadays no "parkie" to chase you
  20. Collyo410 my wife was born and bred in Hucknall so I know exactly what you mean, she never ever sees the funny side of things, mind you living with me I can understand why.
  21. I went to the shed to and found that I couldn't find what I wanted as the wife has tidied the shed for me, so is it worth looking for it or has she thrown it away. The problems of modern life.
  22. Late again but happy birthday Sue.
  23. The Black Diamonds was the Bestwood Colliery Band , I believe it is mentioned on this Forum, if you use the search facility you should find references to it. Also if you go on Youtube you will find a few videos of them.
  24. When looking at these photos it brings it home to you how time passes so quickly. Old black and white photos of a derelict building and an overgrown railway track and you remember playing in that area when the trains were still running, also of the people who were about at that era and passed away years ago, or is it just me remembering the good old days.
