  1. When I were a lad, me gran took me to a dentist/butcher on st Ann's Well rd, across from the Chase. After he had finished, i ended up at the general hospital having some stitches to stem the bleeding he had caused. No compo in them day's!!
  2. I'm with you on that one Phil, but when you give a cyclist a friendly ,'pap ' on the horn to let them know that you are there, and they stay two or three abreast, and then put two fingers up to you after, I call that damm right ignorant, or very brave/stupid. I know a few folks that would not think twice about stopping in front of them and wrapping the bikes around they're neck.
  3. I think some have 'fly sheets ' mixed up with fly tipping !!
  4. I don't think many new lorry drivers know how to tie there shoe laces never mind sheet and rope a load. My father in law, took pride in his skills of securing his load. He also taught three of his sons to do the same. But like has been said, curtain siders and the likes have taken over. Strange though, i see a lot more ratchet straps lying on the roads than I ever did with sheets and ropes, and curtain siders with loads bulging out of one side. Still i suppose that's progress for you!!
  5. Now this is the part that I don't fully understand, cyclists, which in the vulnerability stakes, rank one up from pedestrians and one below motorcyclist are allowed to effectively race on the public highway. My insurance is null and void if I did that on my motor bike or car !!. Also when out on my bike, I do tend to ride more defensively than in a car, because I know how vulnerable i am. But the groups of cyclists,as stated, think that they are above the law. Please feel free to enlighten me,!!
  6. Usually a clip on the elbow from the side mirror gets the desired result !!!
  7. With today's generation, it's possible!!
  8. I might be wrong, but years ago, could you drive a fire engine on a car licence?. I think someone told me this a long time back, as fire engines wernt classed as HGV. I know that now that they do!
  9. Every time I try to do the trial and error thing, i end up more confused. But that maybe because I only use my tablet. Perhaps i should start "taking tablets" !!
  10. My ex wife told me that she had never had an accident, but knowing how she used to drive, I'd say she had seem plenty in her rear view mirror.
  11. Thanks Margie, i have also learnt something about using the site, and a few other members have probably benefited from your online coaching.
  12. I think I've said it before but, the cars of today don't represent the speed limits set 50years ago.or perhaps i meant to say, the speed limits set today do not represent the cars of today! Hope you understand what I mean!!
  13. Got to agree with that Ian, use them alot for my stuff. Mind you, the wagons have come on a bit.
  14. I have always supported the case that, it's inappropriate use of speed that kills, not speed itself!!
  15. Ah, forgot about them, thought they came out later, mine was a 79 5.3 blew the head gasket, what a nightmare to put right.
  16. You must have been one of the lucky ones, they didn't make many manual one's as the gearbox couldn't take the strain of the 5.3 v12.When I say lucky, i mean cos they were rare.
  17. Just as well, cos the bits outside aint!
  18. So I suppose he took it off agen, he he
  19. Ok, apologies folks for being a bit slow/stupid, but not knowing how to start/ask a question i thought perhaps go to a popular post and try my luck. Simple question, why do members want to be anonymous?. When after they reply, we know who they are !!
  20. Yep, I was going with Hillman Hunter. oops one too many Ls.
  21. Go on Ian, what's that mota in front of the 'moggy '?
  22. Don't see,Curly Wurlys. Rebuilt the top 50ft of 'Cadbury s at Framton on Severn and incorporated some of those in the rebuild.
  23. We lived at Heacham, just a few miles from the 'scene ' and driven down that road uncountable times. There was no reason for a accident if the driver was competent, just let the chauffeur drive instead of pretending to be able when clearly he is not. Do we think that he will bye the poor women a new car as a token gesture, if only to save the increase on her insurance? I think not!!Luckily
  24. Whoops, maybe wrong thread!!
  25. Lady tells the police that the guy was on his phone and eating at the same time. The policeman told her that he was perfectly entitled to do what he wants in his own conservatory.
