  1. Really interested to find your thread about the Poor Boys Home (as I now know it to be) on Roseberry. Got a garbled story about it from my hubby whose folks ran a b&b on Clifton Grove. Visited today for first time for a look.

      Hi catfan, he was lucky enough not to be in there, but was down the road on Clifton Grove, big house on the corner, No.2, he told me about the home, but didn't know much about it. It piqued my interest though, especially when I saw some of the horror stories!

      Ask him if he remembers a big night time fire around there sometime, can'tremember which year '59 - '62 a big factory burned down, think I mentioned that in the thread.

      Was the 70s, he was already growed up. He hated Skeg and came back to Notts to live in a flat. He was bored. Said there were no jobs except working in the sweet factories, probably the same now. A lot of the people looked a bit hard up. Was it a sweet factory that burned down?

  2. Loved finding this group while doing a bit of nosing round on the internet. Visited Skeg for the first time in at least 30 years recently. My other half took me to see the place where his parents ran a b&b in the 60s/70s. Turned out it was on Clifton Grove so got the story of the home on Roseberry which I looked up and that's how I found this forum. Would love to see the photos from then, as part of the site is a Mormon church now. Not surprised Nottingham City Council did not want to let any info out about the goings on there. Most (possibly ALL) of their children's homes are being
