Housing and mortgages in the past

Got my first mortgage in 1974 and though I remember the interest rates being high, I can't remember we struggled. We never had to cut back on stuff for the kids when they came along. Never had a credit card in those days so didn't get in debt. TV was rented and we had a second hand washing machine and a tiny fridge. Life was good. -
And hopefully isn't too squeamish...

Not rained here on the Island since May 14th. Grass is yellow, fruit and veg need constant watering at night. Too hot for walks with the dogs, just drive to the nearest river and let them play.

A 95-year-old woman who was Tasered by police at an Australian care home, sparking a public outcry, has died. Clare Nowland was critically injured after police responded to reports she was wandering around the home with a steak knife at about 04:00 last Wednesday. New South Wales Police (NSW) said she died "surrounded by family and loved ones".
