  1. HOWEVER... Mrs WB watches the shows where so called celebrities compete. Cooking, dancing, ice skating, sewing etc. The judges say something nice but then say HOWEVER and then start picking faults. Mrs WB has had enough and has finally learnt how to use SKYQ and records everything so she can fast forward through the judges bit. HOWEVER, she still watches the damn programmes.
  2. A few things BK... The IoM prison was on Victoria Road!!!! Perhaps a reason he couldn't visit you. (Only joking). The tram up Snaefell is a definite highlight for any visitors. My youngest lives in an old cottage in Laxey, I often think I should have bought it, she has glorious sea views from the front of her house. Mount Murray was used as an isolation place for returning residents last year when we had a covid problem. There is a steam railway service from Douglas to Port Erin in the south which is a lot more scenic and nostalgic than the Ramsey tram.
  3. I'm on the same side of the island as the tram Beekay,(Onchan), but in the thirty years I've been here only used it a couple of times. Much prefer driving over the mountain road to Ramsey.
  4. Too right Beekay, have to pack sandwiches and a flask if you need to go to Ramsey from where I am!
  5. Have a virtual drive around some of the big cities... https://driveandlisten.herokuapp.com/
  6. I thought you were going to say Offal times...
  7. That takes me back... Passed my driving test in August 1971 and one of my mates said "let's go to Skeggy, that will be good practice now you can drive". Me dad had just bought me an old Ford Popular as a present for passing the test. Drove over to Skeg, pint in the Ship (I was only 17 and me mate had to go in and get it, I looked very young for my age) and then drove straight back to Nottingham. Happy days.

  9. Don't like Coke or Pepsi very much. The only fizzy pop I drink is Vimto. Takes me back to sitting outside a pub as a kid while my parents had a couple inside. (Usually The Wolds or Test Match in Bridgford). Have had a few Macdonalds but wouldn't go out of my way to get one.
  10. Hi Ben, Only residents allowed in and we have to self isolate for 14 days when we get back from visits across. A few key workers have been let in but they have to follow strict guidelines (5 specialist welders were jailed a couple of weeks ago after they went to the supermarket on arrival to get some beers!). Daily life is just the same for everyone else, pretty much the same as before covid, no restrictions apart from the return from holidays/visiting relatives. Must say nothing has changed for us. Maybe we would have had a short break to UK but it will wait. Look after yo
  11. Lovely day yesterday - Mrs WB's birthday. Steam train from Douglas to Port Erin. Lovely weather so fish and chips on Port Erin front then back on train for a beer (or two) on Douglas Quayside. We're not much into pubs but that just rounded the day off nicely.
  12. Unluckily the other team scored two.
  13. Doing more than okay over here, 100 days covid free... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-53952024
  14. My next door neighbour died from contracting Covid. He was the second person to die on the Isle of Man from the virus. He was a taxi driver. His death certainly made the residents of our little Avenue become very conscientious as he was not very old, only in his sixties.
