  10. A hundred years later..this man still has not been awarded medals due to him..or his family.Walter Tull..one of the first black football players ( Spurs.) Did his patrioric chore..returned to the front after suffering shellshock twice..perished in 1918 and was awarded the MC...which to this day has not been issued. Shameful, and that goes for the other nations that fought and did not qualify for war pensions etc..

  17. Same area..but mid fifties.Apart from the 'Unit 4+2' monstrosity on Burton St.this is pretty much how i care to remember this area. Ivor Thirsts Mansfield Arms..just a glimpse on the left.Moulin Rogue and The Golden Key and what was to become Dolphin Motors to the right. My mate smashed his arm and collar bone on that crossing, retrieving a Mexico 1970 football..ouch! Never forget our neighbour who was in Palestine in '47 and 'scarred'...fast asleep on that very crossing at 11pm. Me Dad had to do a Firemans lift and put him to bed...good times.

Clinton Pub and Picses Chip Shop.Shippos and the Bottling Plant- Roy Wharton,Robin Hood Printers and Wilkinsons St.Old General and Lenos Cinema...Browns Bakery and the Co op Minimarket. Garfinkels for bits and bobs and Heathcotes for film.Roses shoes and Playland.St.Pauls Church and Crofts Newsagents faced Morleys Bread.Manchester Direct for your ne
