  1. Uk are doing a trial about mixing vaccines. Nottingham University is asking for volunteers to take part in the trials at the moment. Just want to get my second jab next week hopefully. Spoken to my friend in Doncaster today. Her and her mother were supposed to have second Pfizer jab last Thursday. They still haven’t had it with no idea of when they will get it.
  2. I can remember going to Roughtons, up near Canning Circus if I remember correctly, to buy material for dresses, skirts etc. They cut off the amount you wanted from a large bale. Also the Rubber Supply Company which sold shoes. I can remember going there with my mum to get my first pair of high boots in the 60’s. I loved those boots wore them until they dropped to bits. Like Mary1947 I can remember the shoe shops on Clumber Street, Saxons, Dolcis, there was one that began with an M was it Manfreds - not sure. C&A for the latest mod fashions, you didn’t want to pay too much as the fashion
  3. I thought that I might get bored when I retired having worked all my adult life from the age of 16. I was made redundant at 60 as the firm I walked for was bought over by another and moved to Billingham from Doncaster so I was retired by circumstances really. I did get a part time job at the small local McColls (which some weeks was nearly full time as I was called in when needed especially as I tended to do the evening shift). When I moved back here I decided I had done my bit and decided to retire, although I do have an occasional job as an invigilator at a local school (whenever exams start
  4. That is good to hear I am going there in 2 weeks so hopefully will get mine as well.
  5. Reading reports that some people are having their appointments cancelled for their second Pfizer jab as it is “not available”, I presume they will have to make another appointment which means they will be over the 12 weeks. It is just the Pfizer jab from what I have seen and not the AZ one. It is suggested it is a distribution problem although I would have thought they would have this sorted at this stage of the vaccination programme. Makes me wonder if they do have enough to cover those who have had the first jab. Bit worrying as I don’t fancy being a guinea pig to see if two different jabs w
  6. I was working at Woolworths on Hyson Green (I miss their pick & Mix!) when the girl who worked on the food counter cut her hand on the bacon slicer. It was horrendous never seen so much blood which wasn’t good as it makes me feel faint. Had to go to the staff room to lie down for a while, wasn’t the only one either.
  7. Any death is sad for family and friends no matter who they are. I must admit I do not have any feelings either way about this, I neither knew him nor took much notice of him to be honest. I do agree the award scheme he started has done good work. I do wonder how many other 99 year olds would have had heart surgery but perhaps that is just me being cynical! To those that are Royalist supporters it must be sad but I must admit I am glad I have the Sky channels so I can get away from the terrestrial channels who do seem to be wallowing in it a bit. Sorry.
  8. Perhaps he was classed as “clinically vulnerable” which is why he was being extra cautious?
  9. Although it could be construed as a bit “naff” I love the John Wayne cowboy films (not so much the ones where he wins WWII by himself), The Searchers, True Grit, She Wore A Yellow Riibbon etc. He just epitomised a cowboy for me with that walk, just seemed so right. The original Magnificent Seven is brilliant and the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns aren’t bad, the shooting of the gun fights are brilliant with the shots of just the eyes. I can vaguely remember Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy, they had tv series I think. Then there was Wagon Train which was on Monday nights at 8 in the
  10. Heaven was sitting on the bench at the edge of the woods, which were covered in bluebells and full of birdsong, watching my two boys playing together on the meadow without a care in the world. Coming back to us for a drink of water and a fuss before going to play again.
  11. I saw them live at a NME concert in London, great voice and soooooo handsome. He sang so effortlessly, love that song one of my favourites.
  12. I know of someone who worked with a woman who won half a million on the football pools (do people still do them?) and carried on working. She also did overtime which was rationed much to the chagrin of the other workers.
  13. Donnygate in Doncaster was a labour council that wasted a lot of tax payers money on first class junkets etc for themselves and their mates a few years ago.
  14. On the roof they won’t Radfordred. But they were partying, go to Nottinghamshire Live and see what the residents of Lenton are saying about the amount of partying going on there and the number police have had to break up. That is what will spread it. Common sense needs to prevail among a small minority. I have no quarrel with the demonstrators at all, the bill they are demonstrating against isn’t good. As to getting back to normal I can’t wait hope it is sooner rather than later.
  15. Read today that the area I live in is now classed as being a “virus suppressed” area of which there are 25 around Nottingham. There is another one a bit further down the estate which was really bad at one time. Some good news for a change hopefully it will spread to the rest of Nottingham and surrounding areas. Not so sure about Lenton after the latest video showing students doing handstands and running about on the roofs of houses there!! Idiots.
  16. It’s people over 70 who will be getting a booster in the autumn. I had the Pfizer jab, presume it will be a Pfizer booster then? Don’t really like the idea of mixing jabs from different manufacturers so close together.
  17. I see a couple in Nottingham have won the £10,000 a month for 30 years Prize on the lottery. Well done them, hope they really make the most if it and enjoy it and we won’t in a few years see articles saying how the lottery win ruined their lives. That drives me mad. Upon reflection about winning something like that (the most I win is a lucky dip so don’t think I would ever have that problem) I don’t think I would opt for publicity, in fact I know I wouldn’t. If others in our syndicate wanted it then that is up to them but I would rather keep it private . If it was a big jackpot win there
  18. Watched Midsummer Murders last night on catch up. Enjoy it, always think it is a “gentle” murder series if you see what I mean. I am also watching Peaky Blinders box set as well. Wasn’t very impressed after the first episode but stuck with it and am enjoying it now. I find I am watching more and more box sets recently as there doesn’t seem much of interest on at the moment even though I have Sky, or possibly because I have Sky. Watch quite a bit on Dave, QI, which I love, such a lot of useless information can be gleaned from it, Would I Lie to You and Have I Got News For You, although I
  19. Just had a look on the live feed and, Archie, I presume, is now sitting in the eggs and there appears to be another one further away on the ledge, the new female? I presume. Really sad the original female has been found dead, I presume the eggs won’t now hatch as they are left uncovered for periods of time?
  20. We always had books at home, my dad encouraged us to read. The first book that really got me interested in reading was The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. At Glenbrook Girls Junior School on Friday afternoons Miss Walton would read a chapter of a book to us, more years ago than I care to remember. This is where a I first came across it. Told my dad about it and he went out and got the whole “box set” of them. I read them all although the above one was always my favourite. If there is an adaptation of it on the telly (which there hasn’t been for a while, don’t they do things like that now f
  21. I am classed as borderline overactive and only take 5mg tablets every day. They were cut down to every other day last year as I had stabilised but then after a few months had a “wobble” so back to one a day. (I was really stressed about a relative and their working conditions with the virus, don’t know if that caused it or not. Although it was mentioned at the time I was diagnosed about the stress of my husbands final illness and then his death two weeks after my mum died possibly being an original trigger.) When I have my telephone appointments with the hospital they do keep mentioning the
  22. Whilst having my morning coffee I have been ruminating over the past extrodinary and horrendous year. When we first heard about the virus I think we presumed it would be like SARS and just affect China but be brought under control and wouldn't be a problem. Then we started seeing the first pictures from Italy, Still seemed a long way away and it didn’t seem like it would affect us. Then as the pictures got worse and worse and the death toll started to mount we had a discussion about getting face masks. It seemed an overreaction at the time but we decided to get a box each “just in case”. Li
  23. I see the EU’s once again demanding supplies of AZ from the UK and is also threatening export bans to countries that have a successful vaccination policy (ie us). You just could not make this up, firstly claiming the AZ jab wasn’t very good on people over 60, then wondering why no one in the EU seemed to want it leaving millions of doses of the vaccine not being used with people not turning up for their appointments etc. Now they have suspended use of it when the Pfizer one has a record of more cases of blood clots although still minimal. The Johnston & Johnston one which they have pass
