  1. Today is the second day Jj can go for a walk. Yesterday we took him in the car (we have been taking him for a ride every day for the past couple of weeks so he is an old hand at it now) and went to local dog park. Wasn’t sure how he would react, bit like throwing him in at the deep end although it was early evening so it wasn’t as packed as it can get. I had been walking him round the garden on his lead to try and get him used to it, he wasn’t really impressed!
We got him out the car and he was a bit hesitant but we managed to get him out the car park and onto the grass. He gradually got more confident and had a good time sniffing round, trying to eat dandelions and picking up pieces of wood, “drop” is a work in progress depending on what he has picked up and how much he thinks it is “his”. Came back home and he had his dinner and flaked out for a good nap.
This morning I got a lie in, 7 instead of 6, which was nice. Got up had a quick drink and then took him round the block. Managed to keep him on one side of me instead of him meandering all over the place, not easy as he is quite determined. We had to stop and watch cars and buses go past, he’s not so sure about big lorries yet. Bit of a wobble when a big dog was barking as we went past (quite quickly), but he is only 12 weeks old after all.
We came back, he had his breakfast and we got cleaned up, he will now stay in the same room as the hoover, kept away from the steam cleaner and attacked the mop. Took him upstairs for the first time and he found the full length mirror and was horrified there was another dog in his house. Then we went outside and played with his ball, he had some of his dinner and is now crashed out having a nap.
It isn’t easy being a puppy you know.

  2. I was a teenager during the 60’s. Couldn’t have been a better time to be a teenager, the music, the fashion, the mods and rockers (although I was a “mod” I had boyfriends who were mods and rockers), going to Skeggy and watching the scuffles between the two with my friend (our boyfriends made sure we were out of the way). Going to London and going to Carnaby Street (which I must admit we thought was actually a bit “naff”) although we did buy stuff from there. Going into Biba and buying a very expensive skirt, blouse and long line top combo. Having my hair cut so that it was shorter on one side than the other, my mum nearly had a fit when she saw it.

Following the Stones on their tours (bit basic by today’s standards but we were mesmerised by them) when they were round and about Nottingham. Going to London to see the NME yearly concert with a group of friends.
The best of times, wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

  3. The area I live in has now lost its “virus supressed status” as we now have 5 confirmed cases, not sure if they are the Indian variant or not. Hopefully this little outbreak will be contained and not spread.

  4. In Doncaster where I lived before there was a Costcutter supermarket in our mining village. They put the names of shoplifters up on the entrance door with “Banned from here” in big letters above the list. It was up for a while then one of them complained and they were made to take it down.
I worked in a small convenience store in the village. The stores there had a system that when one of the local shoplifters was out again (they sometimes got a few weeks in prison or were tagged) the first shop they went in called all the others to let them know he/she was out and about again. We had pictures of them taken from our cctv which were kept in the office and the relevant picture would be put on office notice board so we could keep an eye out for them. Although most were “regulars” who we knew anyway.

  5. That is just the point RR I DON’T want any more lockdowns and want to get back to as much as normal as possible. Don’t know anyone who is getting 80% to stay at home so can’t comment on what they think.

  6. Let’s hope it isn’t a case of deja vue again with this new variant. I noticed it is being classed as bought into the country by plane. Possibly India should have been put on red list earlier and those arriving from there going into compulsory quarantine for 14 days or is it 10 now when they came here. Once again horse and bolted comes to mind.
I am fed up of being thanked for all the sacrifices only to have a delay on something that seems logical co....g everything up AGAIN.

  7. Whilst it is good that we are now slowly relaxing the lockdown rules there are two that I am not sure about.

One is the relaxation of wearing masks in schools. There has been an outbreak in a school in Long Eaton of 100 cases amongst pupils and staff causing the closedown of the school for a while. I believe this was the “Indian” strain which is more contagious.
This week I have started invigilating at my local school again (so nice to be doing something “normal” for a change) wearing a mask even though I am scribing on a one to one basis which does not interfere with it at all. Even though there have been no officially reported cases in the school for a while I am not sure whether I would feel confident to do it without a mask especially when I will be in a room with 45 pupils which has no windows to provide ventilation. Whilst the above case, hopefully, will be a one off I do think that another few weeks of this regulation would not hurt, especially as we now know this strain has appeared in Nottinghamshire.
The second one is foreign holidays. Whilst the countries on the green list have very few cases there will be tourists there from countries where the incidence of the virus will be high. I do appreciate I will probably get some flak about this as I know some are desperate to go abroad for a holiday but am not convinced that the present guidelines will prevent new variants being imported into the country (re the above Long Eaton case). Also will we end up in a position as before where countries are suddenly taken off the green list and there are loads of people scrambling to get home before quarantine kicks in?

Whilst I appreciate all reopening poses a chance of a rise in infections, especially in those who have not been vaccinated, I do feel we still do not have rigorous enough systems in place (whatever happened to track and trace - you don’t hear about it now even though Dido Harding has received millions more for it) to deal with some of the issues.

I have now had my two injections (Pfizer) and on Friday it will be 3 weeks since my second so they should have kicked in fully so do feel more confident about going places although I don’t think I would go inside a restaurant/pub. Possibly a bit cautious of me but  wouldn’t feel comfortable about it at the moment, perhaps in a few weeks it might change.

  8. Browsing thru old forums and saw this, started me thinking what I would like to relive. The obvious was the first time I saw my husband, he was painting the front room of his flat with the front door open and “You’re So Vain” blasting out.
    Other things:

Seeing the Rolling Stones for the first time and then meeting them as a 15 year old the 3rd time we saw them. I’m sure I would have thought of something to say this time instead of being struck dumb.

Seeing Gene Pitney live on stage, he was so handsome.
The long hot summer of ‘76 when I got married.

A Sunday with my mum and dad, radio blasting, mum doing Sunday dinner and dad rummaging for something in his shed.
Holding my great niece for the first time ( I am not really a small baby fan but she took my heart right away).

Getting my two boys they were so special.
Putting in the final offer on my house in Nottingham, wouldn’t have offered what I did for it, in fact I probably wouldn’t have increased my offer. (Hindsight is a wonderful thing)

There are probably more things I would like to relive again but I might get too maudling!

  9. I have noticed that about the prices. Must say we always go in for a browse whenever we are near. Always seem to come out with something that I didn’t know I wanted but seems a good idea. Numerous times I have got home and unpacked my bags and wondered why the heck did I buy that!

  10. This morning I was up at 7 (bit of a lie in there it has been 6 to half past past few days), sorted breakfast whilst playing with a crinkly rabbit, practised our sit (successfully) and stay (not quite so successfully), filled up bird table and did a bit of tidying up. Then the important part of the morning, an hours play with a squeaky ball, bringing it back getting better, drop it not so good but we are persevering. Bit of a time out in the cage after some hand nipping, not malicious just teething. Hate doing it but he has to learn what not to do.

Bit more playing with squeaky ball, couple of little biscuits for sitting down when asked.

Now flaked out in his bed and I am considering a morning nap to recharge ready for this afternoon.
I have ordered a puppy playpen for the garden to keep him away from potted plants, stones and bird poo (which he seems especially fond of). I don’t want him to get into the habit of picking things up, especially stones and I am sure the bird poo won’t do him any good. Has anyone else used one  at all? I will be there whilst he is in the garden but want to make sure he is safe in case I have to nip inside for any reason.

  11. I have now had my new companion for 4 days, Ripley became Jj, got fed up of being asked why we had named him after the place called Ripley! He has settled in really well and up to now has:

Pulled the garden hose all round the garden, into the kitchen, pulled the spout off it and broken the connection that fits it onto the tap.

Massacred my pot plants, pulled some up and did like running round the garden with a heather plus plant pot in his mouth. They are now relegated to between the conservatory and the fence to keep them (and him) safe.
Explored the small conservatory, best part is running behind the horizontal blinds so that they bang against the window.
Got behind the settee even though I thought I had blocked it off. Not managed to get behind the tv yet but not for lack of trying.
Turned my kitchen/front room into a toy shop and race track.

Found everything in the garden that I missed when sweeping up.
Gets up at 6 in the morning, has his breakfast and half an hour play and then retires for a nap.
Thinks his name is Jj NOOOOO.
I am tired, have puppy spit in my hair, the house looks like a bomb has hit it and it is sooooo wonderful:wub:

  12. Tonight I am going to have my favourite meal ... egg and chips (crinkle cut), tomato sauce (Heinz) with bread and butter and a cup of tea. Heaven. The only thing that would make it better would be some parsnip chips in with the potato ones but as I don’t own a chip pan will have to make do with potato ones only.
Simple I know but sooooo tasty:biggrin:

  13. It is good to see the UK and USA are sending supplies to India to help them out in their crisis and it would appear we are not going to pursue the doses of AZ that we were supposed to get from them either which is the right thing to do. A drop in the ocean but it is a start. The virus out of control in any country is a threat to us all.

  14. Yesterday I had my second Pfizer jab (hooray). So I am now one of the millions that will be protected to some degree. I am pleased to say my friend and her mother in Doncaster finally got their Pfizer jabs on the same day, although theirs were 2 weeks late as they have only just got supplies.
As before the volunteers at the Forest were superb, can’t praise them enough. It was busier than for my first jab but it was as efficient as the first time and they kept us moving through the system.
Today I am a bit achy and have a slight headache and my arm is a bit sore but only mild symptoms not like friends who have had AZ which seems to knock some off their feet for a couple of days.

A lot of things haven’t really gone well with the covoid response in the past year, no doubt there will be more bumps in the road, but the vaccination programme seems to be a roaring success thankfully. I hope that the EU get over their present problems and that their vaccination programme will now start ramping up as well. We all need the protection the vaccines can give us no matter where we are.

  15. No doubt it’s doggedly making its way towards my side room. Unfortunately there is a tenant in situ at present so there will be no vacancy until such time as the tenancy agreement expires. Even then the said in situ tenant has the option to renew the said tenancy agreement providing all the conditions of said tenancy have been fully met and both sides are in agreement.
So alternative accommodation will be needed for said bruiser. Any offers?

  16. When my husband worked down the pit I once got a phone call to tell he he had been hurt and would be going to hospital. Luckily one of his mates arrived at the door a few minutes later to tell me he was okay. A newby had started one of the trains off whilst he was doing something on the track and although he got out of the way he was stuck between the side of the pit and the train. He ended up with some cuts and bruises. He had one that was just above his ear to right near the corner of his eye, lucky it ended where it did he could have lost his eye. He had the usual blue scar there.

About 15 minutes later an ambulance appeared and he got out. Came to drop off his bike before he went to hospital! Didn’t know whether to kiss him or hit him:ohmy:

  17. After my various run ins with the gigantic Nottingham spiders (Big Bertha, Gigantic Gertie) I realised as I was sweeping my side room (where they had their tenants agreement) that I hadn’t seen any for a long time. I did become a bit more cautious as I was moving stuff after that.
Then I saw movement as something ran up the wall. Yes it was a spider but a “normal” sized one, not hairy, no dripping fangs, wasn’t built like Mike Tyson and it was running away from me and not towards as the others seemed to do. It eventually stopped and pretended it wasn’t really there, as they do, so I finished what I had to do. It was still there pretending it wasn’t when I had finished so I got my trusty spider catching kit. I must say I am getting quite good at doing this (probably famous last words) and it was very co-operative letting me guide it carefully into my plastic jar without any problem with only one slight dither from me. Gold star for us both.

It now resides in my newly cleaned window in the side room where it can be found sunning itself on the narrow window sill. Don’t want to put it out at the moment as the mornings can still be a bit frosty (I know, I know I am a bit of a softy) but when the weather improves it might have to take up residence in my sweet peas. Normal tenancy rules apply!

  18. Got a txt yesterday reminding me of my appointment next Friday for my second jab. Couple of hours later they sent me an email .... reminding me of my appointment for my second vaccination next Friday.  Looks like I am having my second vaccination next friday.

  19. I certainly don’t intend to stay in “lockdown” all of my life, must say no one I know wants to either, we are all waiting for 2nd jabs and our social things to start opening up again. If there are some that want to then it is their choice, I certainly wouldn’t force anyone to do something they are not comfortable with.
As soon as things settle down a bit we intend to go into Nottingham shopping (hooray) and go to our favourite local eating place. Here’s to getting back to some sort of normal:rolleyes:

  20. I have suddenly realised that since the first lockdown I have become somewhat of a hoarder of food. Well perhaps less of a hoarder more of a squirrel getting stuff “just in case”.  I don’t mean I have got enough toilet roll to last a year or have a room crammed full of tinned goods and bottled water, but when I went into my freezer yesterday I had a bit of a panic when I thought there was only one frozen loaf of bread. I pulled open the drawer above and there were two more in that which was a relief. There are also two   4pint milks in there which I rotate each week when I get another one. I would point out I wasn’t one of those who went in and stripped shelves in supermarkets, instead of getting one of everything as before I would get a pack of 3 small beans/spaghetti etc. instead

I did have one loaf in there before the lockdown so I had enough to last a week but had never had milk in there before, that started when the panic buying was happening and also so I didn’t have to go to the shops too often.

I also stocked up on tinned stuff for the same reason, frozen stuff was from Iceland where I got a VIP status because of my age so that was a help and made sure my freezer was fairly full. I was the same with dog food and still have a bag unopened that I got in the first lockdown with a lot of treats and wet food as well. In fact I think I stocked Kai up more than me to be honest, my new pup will have enough to last him a long while when he is on adult food.
I wasn’t like this before all this started and am finding it a hard habit to break even though things are getting a bit better at the moment. Perhaps it is still the uncertainty of what will happen next and will hopefully ease as the virus comes under some sort of control? Time will tell I suppose, must go and count my tins of beans!
