This is the project I'm working on at present. i'm doing a 12 x 14" canvas painting for my dear sister-in-law who lives in Stapleford. Photograph of the Duomo, Florence that she took when visiting last year. Will post the finished work, if anyone is interested.

When leaving, did you say to your dining neighbour, "ta-ra duck, or Sithee". That, he would understand. B.

Just had a look on Google. As usual, I'm well out of my depth. Know bugger me !! The school I was referring to is Trinity Catholic school, on left side, going down Beechdale road, just past Kingsbury drive. Think I was getting mistaken because the girls uniform was/is blue blazers. The ages as far as I knew were up to 18/19, so you can imagine, as an impressionable 19 year old myself I found some of the older girls quite admirable. So, I'm blaming Compo for confusing this doddering old fart.
Cheers everbody and thanks Jill and Stewpot.

Did'nt Bluecoat school start on Beechdale road? Opposite the entrance to Bilborough depot/ Harvey Hadden stadium. Seem to remember all the girls getting on the number 16 on Granby street, ( is that still there? ). Always thought it was a Catholic school.

M.G.B. I'm sure used to be on Harrow road, but not sure if it's still going. Both my two younger brothers went there after attending Southwold Primary school on Wollaton road, ( next to Raleigh entrance).
Had a quick look on Mr.Google but it looks like a nursery/primary school now. Remeber M.G.B. being a concrete and glass affair. I would have thought it a bit far from Lenton C.T, but then again kids could have been sent anywhere, perhaps even Clifton comp.
I certainly don't recall any of my school companions coming from Lenton addresses.

Hey up Compo. It may have been Cottesmore school on Radford blvd. But I would'nt swear to it.
( Looking at activities pages, I don't rate your chances, unless your'e in to politics).
There was a school right at the bottom of Lenton blvd, where we used to walk to for woodwork, but that may have been just a primary school. I cannot recall any other school in that vicinty. No doubt someone will correct me.

That's what I keep wondering Col. Begining to feel like Billy-no-mates, wandering through a ghost town.

"Whatever happened to"?....All the posters on here. Are they all still in church? Looking at my activity list, only FOUR posts in about 9 hours. Maybe I'll stick another on 'drop one keep one'.

Talking of catching the last bus for home took me right back to c.1962/63 and a bit of 64. When I were a conductor out of Bilborough. I used to love being on lates and sitting outside Bejam/Brentford nylons on what is now Maid Marion way. The 16/16A/32 at one stop and 30/62 at the other. When sitting at the stop unti departure time, you could always guarantee there would be a couple snogging at the wall instead boarding the bus. Some folks could never make up their mind which one would leave first so stood in between stops. Time to go and I would stamp out my fag and jump on the platform and ring the bell . Off we trundled and inevitably, some 'herbert' would drop his girl and run after the bus, on one occasion yelling 'ang on ya Ba**ard'. Looking back, I wonder how many of you lot missed my bus? If so, I'm sorry, but it's not my fault if you were preoccupied. Loved it in summer, with warm nights but bloody murder in winter. "OWD TIGHT"!!!

Been in it and shopped there while waiting for my car to be serviced at Beanland Motors, opposite the Beechdale pub.
-
That pub youre referring to Ben, is 'The Beechdale'.
Its situated where Beechdale veers off to the right and the road that goes straight ahead is Honington road. Wigman road starts at the next traffic island, ( this would be the route of the original buses, 56, 60 and 13 ((which turned left onto Glaisdale drive)). Often called in that pub when finished work at Bilborough depot. All those shops below Robins Wood road, I often pulled up at the bus stop and dash over to the paper shop for a paper or packet of fags. This was back in the mid 60s.

Tried to watch the above post CT, but was put off by the annoying generator or machine gun soundtrack. I realise it's probably supposed to be a soundtrack of a cine projector, but so not neccesary. Think I'll watch it and put my background effects on it.

How come they built a Lidl in Bingham? Surely that's just a one horse village out in the sticks, or am I totally behind the times. Incidentally, I've got some Waitrose bags too Phil.

Are you coming up to Thoresby scrumping this year Beekay?
Too right sunshine ! Trouble is, when I get up there, all the bloody fruit will be gone. I shall have to call in Morrisons or Aldi in Nottingham, on my way and buy my pears there. Still, it's the thought that counts int it Ian.
-
And I wish you all the very best to you both Lets.
We celebrated our Golden back in 2015 up at Thoresby hall when we planted a pear tree and go back to see it every year. So you were virtually childhood sweethearts, and long may it last.
You'll have to PM me the date, so I can send you an anniversary card. B.
