  1. @letsavagoo: I stand shoulder to shoulder with you on your views about this thread.

@DJ360: having never heard the expression “ when did you stop beating your wife?” Instead of explaining to me, you open the conversation with the word “really?” Before your explanation. This came across as a sneering condescending opening. You may or may not have meant it as such. That’s how I perceived it.

”sorry, but it’s hardly my fault if you don’t understand what I write”.     Really?

”what you are trying to prove, is that immigrants, and especially Black/Asian immigrants are more dangerous than White British.”

These are your words not mine. You explain. At no point have I mentioned anyone’s ethnicity. Now who doesn’t understand what’s written?

We have enough rotten eggs already, without supplementing them with others who basically shouldn’t be here.

I intend this to be my last post on this thread.

  2. @DJ360: “when did you stop beating your wife?” I’m sorry, you have banjaxed me with this analogy. Your political stance is your affair, to quote Voltaire “ I disagree entirely with what you have to say, but will fight to the death for your right to say it.”

From my point of view, every time you make a political statement, you quote endless passages from various sources. Some of your posts are harder to understand than War & Peace, and equally as long.

You have produced a list of mass shootings to promote your argument. No mention of bombings, stabbings, sexual offences, drug racketeering, child grooming, carried out by people who shouldn’t be here. Once here we struggle to deport them no matter their offences.

I neither have time nor the inclination to produce lists.
However, what would you do with a character arriving in this country under an assumed name who had committed a serious crime in another country: drugging, raping and killing a thirteen year old girl. He arrived in this country six days after committing this offence.

Mass arrivals crossing our borders with false or no documentation is a recipe for disaster.
       Chancers, criminals, terrorists welcome!
Only recently, one of these characters was jailed for murder, then we find out he had killed two people before arriving here.

Yes the demographics of this country are being altered because over 90% of illegal arrivals are men.

I was told many years ago: ”if you’re fleeing persecution you take your family with you, if you’re off to war, you leave them behind.”

I realise this is a broad generalisation.

I have no doubt that there are some genuine cases amongst them, unfortunately no one knows as lack of documentation makes life difficult.

I agree, none of us know what a future government will do. The same argument applies to brexit, no one knows how it will pan out as there are many who don’t want it to work. My personal opinion is a lot of unrest taking place is linked to this issue.

A lot of manipulation seems to be taking place that appears beyond our control.

As regards your last issue, I’m only a lowly twerp, but in my simple world a man has a penis and a woman has a vagina. One fits into the other to produce babies.

Have no idea what technical and legal definitions you refer to.

I never get involved in politics so why have I now chosen to dive into a piranha tank head first!

  3. @Jill Sparrow: I agree, Christie’s modus operandi didn’t appear to include physical  violence, however, his first two victims were skeletons when found; he also had a conviction and prison sentence for violence against a woman.

His first victim was strangled during the act of intercourse. Beryl lived in the same house, by all accounts trusted him, after this it is pure speculation on my part.

Christie had a high IQ and was manipulative, I think he was trying to avoid the drop by getting an unsound mind verdict.

Also, there was the tin with four lots of pubic hair, non of which matched any of his later victims. Bearing in mind two of the remains were skeletons when found, that still leaves two unidentified.

Am still open to the possibility of having two murderers in the same house.

However, I am yet to be convinced.

  4.  @Jill Sparrow: It’s likely we’ll never get to the bottom of responsibility for the babies death. However, I am not convinced of Evans’ guilt.

Evans had the IQ of an eleven year old. He could neither read nor write. (Wonder who helped him with his statement?)

Christie, on the other hand was very intelligent and manipulative. He likely used his ex police card, as it doesn’t appear as though the police did a lot of delving into his background, probably convinced of Evans’ guilt.

Not sure about the post-mortem on Beryl Evans as nothing appears to have been noted whether semen present was post death. The baby had been strangled with a tie with a form of reef knot being used. (Christie had been in the scouts.)

The tie was found to belong to a man who lived on the first floor who was residing in hospital at the time.

Not sure about Evans losing his temper, going down to first floor, obtaining a tie and returning to carry out said felony.

Some builders working on the house gave testimony that didn’t correspond to Evans’ statement.

The police never noticed a human thigh bone being used to support a piece of fencing when they went to the house and found Beryl and the baby in an outhouse.

Christie had obtained a position in the police force (1939-1943) despite having a criminal record. Ironically, 1943 being the year of his first murder.

I haven’t read the book you refer to so will have to keep an eye out for it.

  5. @DJ360: with your evangelical zeal for politics, how do you know you are right?

Have you ever considered you may not be correct in all matters.

In your tour of recent history of serious crime, you seem selective in your lists, therefore thus so hence amplifying your argument.

As regards immigration, the demographics of this country are being altered.

Labour would be worse, several of their MP’s helped prevent a plane returning some near do wells back to their own country. One of these has since committed a murder.

The leader of the Labour Party has difficulties in identifying a woman.

    We are doomed! doomed!

  6. @Jill Sparrow :  interestingly I remember reading a book a while ago, in which Christie eventually claimed responsibility for Beryl Evans death, but not the baby, he never acknowledged involvement in her disappearance.

Also, wrong thread, but I have the same affliction as your sister.

  7.       Whilst discussing South Notts buses, it may or may not be interesting to know that a South Notts bus still earns a living in Hampshire. Along with four others, they operate a wedding/special occasion service.
It’s a Bedford OB purchased new in 1949 KNN 314.

No longer does it carry its old livery. However, the bus survives.

  8.    Interestingly, I can only locate one OB being delivered new to Butler Brothers with Duple bodywork and that’s the one in the photo at Huntingdon Street.

They had GAL 249 in 1943 with a Roe body which would have been a wartime utility body. This was actually a OWB.

Also, HRR 192 delivered in 1947 with a Plaxton body.

It’s quite feasible that these could have been rebodied at a later stage with Duple bodywork.

They may have also obtained a second hand bus or two to supplement their fleet.

As a side note, LNN 877 went new to Clark’s of Epperstone. That had a Duple body.

  9. Thanks for posting photograph for me Cliff Ton. Taken in 1969 @ Rempstone. Showing a Ploughing Engine converted with an internal combustion engine. Owned at the time by the Beeby family, it did work and was used in anger. Sadly my recollections about it are not to the fore at the moment. I have no idea whether it still exists/or in what form.
Thought it might be a nice addition to this thread, for those with interest in this field.

I don’t recollect seeing any other steam engines with this modification.

  10.     Thanks for posting photo CliffTon. Another Butler Brothers bus from the same period as the other two. It appears to be a half cab chassis with a full body, some were delivered new to their respective owners whilst others were rebodied at a later stage.

Butler Brothers carried out services to local pits and may have kept certain buses for this purpose, (speculation on my part,) as @Oztalgianonly remembers travelling on Bedford OB’s. It’s registration number being KRR 316.

As they carried out seaside & day trips etc. they probably had a decent fleet.

I remember seeing some parked up at Sutton in Ashfield when the colliers used to parade through the streets with their banners.

An addendum: full bodied half cabs were the chagrin of maintenance staff.

  11.   @Oztalgian : I need to recap on what I was doing when I came across it, was looking for something else at the time. I did have the foresight to take a screen shot as it was a bus mentioned in this thread, but am unable to put it onto this forum. Having issues at the moment looking at other photos put up. Some times get a blank space & other times get a blue square with a message telling me the image is currently unavailable.

Never say never, see what I can sort out.

  12. Been racking my brains and oiling a few cogs, still awaiting the 3 in one to work.

I know Clark’s of Epperstone ran at least one, maybe two dorsal finned coaches.

Skills I think also ran one, although not completely sure. I think Makemson’s also ran one, any recollections @Beekay?

Robin Hood coaches may also have had a couple.
