  1. Judging by the Y'S, this was taken when Tiffanys was there. Is that the door to Intercon, Tiffanys, Zhivagos to the left of the newsagent window? (picture from facbook Nottm Hidden History, no credit shown)
  2. Not sure where you're referring to. The nearest pub to Intercon/Tiffanys/Zhivagos was just to the left, and is still a pub today - https://goo.gl/maps/uc8PaYWX4YDRLnfS9 And further along Milton Street there was also the New Welbeck which was in one of these units. https://goo.gl/maps/Ag7cM1H2QtUhQFKfA
  3. The relevant location there shows Intercon, which is a name I'd forgotten. It gets quite a few mentions in old posts. I'd forgotten about INTERCON till I found that plan before Xmas
  4. The relevant location there shows Intercon, which is a name I'd forgotten. It gets quite a few mentions in old posts. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=intercon&quick=1
  5. I saw Hot Chocolate at Intercon in the early 70s, Errol Brown did have a great voice ..... passed away in the Bahamas 2015.
  6. Yes Nonna, I certainly survived with very little sleep. I was often out til 2am at clubs in town ....... Hippo, 99, Babel, Penny Farthing, Intercon ....... but was always on a bus at 7.50am from Arnold into work. Had to put my mascara on whilst on the bus though What I’d forgotten to mention about our kid though .... he’d been working in Jamaica immediately before his ski trip. He’d landed at Heathrow, gone home, re-packed his bag and shot back to Heathrow at 5am next morning to fly to Geneva. Best of it is, he has Narcolepsy and has great problems sleeping except on long-haul flights
  7. Greetings to all the old '70's clubbers out there. Just joined this forum having returned to good old Snottingham after 35 years in LA. After reading many of the posts (dated 9 years ago), would love to say Hi to my old mate Charlie, who has posted in this forum. I was nicknamed Spook in my clubbing days and would have some of my best nights at the Penny Farthing, having graduated from the Intercon. Remember he played Steely Dan's 'My Old School' incessantly....difficult to dance to but great music all the same. Would like to add to list of clubs that I didn't see mentioned... St Jam
  8. Further to my posts # 31 and 35, I've just found my 1972 diary which makes for interesting reading and brought back a lot of great memories! Anyway, on Friday 28th July I went to Intercon, (getting in for nothing as I was a 'member of the press'!!) All I've written is that Pans People and Stuart Henry (Radio 1 DJ) were there and we drank champagne at a buffet in a side room. No mention of a singer or group that night.
  9. I do recall that Stu,went to see The Cure at intercon and yawned all through a Sad Cafe gig!
  10. #38 Yes, I suppose that's quite possible DJB. Incidentally, Little Richard's performance seemed similar to his reception at Wembley the previous weekend, pretty poor by all accounts. I remember visiting Intercon several times during August '72, not the opening night though.
  11. A couple of other early Intercon gigs were Thin Lizzy (the original three-piece with Eric Bell on guitar) and the now infamous Gary Glitter.
  12. Little Richard played Intercon on 10th August 1972.
  13. Paul, I would dispute that, although it's 40 odd years ago. I was there on the opening night of Intercon and I think it was Lou Christie performing, along with Pans People. I was there with a friend who worked for Nottingham Topic and we had free tickets and an invitation to a private party in a side room in the club. The performers were at this party too, there was a very nice buffet laid out and my friend pinched a couple of jars of caviar and left with them in her handbag!! I certainly don't remember being in the same room as Little Richard and I don't think that I'd forget that. An
  14. And Little Richard was later notorious for opening the Intercon at Victoria Centre, supposedly Europe's biggest nightclub at the time!
  15. It was Intercon when it first opened and then changed to Tiffanys.
  16. My Ex used to work at the INTERCON, under the Vic Centre. 1972? The entrance, with steps leading down, was roughly where Vision Express used to be. Opposite Shakespeare Street. (It was called something else to start with, which escapes me for the moment)

  18. Intercon ......... I was there on the opening night, early 70's, went to a private party in a side room. Pans People were performing that night, along with (possibly) Hot Chocolate or maybe Lou Christie. I saw both there at some stage. I believe it's name changed a few years later.

    Parties

Must have been when they were performing at the grand opening night of Intercon then ! Errol Brown ........
  20. Andy, I frequented the Intercon from 1972-76. Basfordred, I too went to parties at the Truscott house on Alexandra Street in the 60's. Some on the forum may remember John's brother Don Truscott who worked for Radio Nottingham in the 70's. The third brother was Charlie, I last saw him in the early 80's.
  21. Andy, Intercon was the first club that was opened there, by the clock tower. It opened I reckon around 1972. I went to the opening night with a friend who worked for the Nottingham Topic ........ we got in for nothing and were invited to a private party in one of the side rooms and enjoyed drinks and nibbles, my friend left the party with jars of caviar in her handbag !!! Pans People were there and I think Lou Christie was the main act, though it might have been Hot Chocolate because I do remember seeing them there too.
  22. The night club at the entrance to the Vic Centre was the Intercon, I saw the Glitterband there one night, minus the paedo. They had quite a turnover in managers. John Truscott and John Bowers were two of them, JT had a Triumph T110 and JB had a Vincent Black Shadow. 'Barrow Boy' Tony used to sell hot dogs outside the club at one time.

  24. Hi hippo girl, hence the name!! I used to go to the Hippo Club and had some great nights in there. Thanks for all the useful info. My place was the Dungeon, saw some great groups there, and the Belvedere, sitting on the stairs listening to jazz and eating mushy peas! I used to go to the White Hart downstairs as a mod and we never had any trouble with the Rockers upstairs. even joined them on occasions. Also went to the Brit & Boat clubs, Intercon and The L Shaped Room. Our scooters were parked outside the Council House with no bother and the Lyon was always a good place to meet, and o
  25. Yes, It was where TK Maxx is now - upstairs, very glamourous and stylish! Ms Aston indeed couldn't do sums and her shop didn't last too long so possibly there was a link there! When she opened it lots of press turned up, I was lurking at the back trying to get noticed in my Chelsea Girl outfit and platforms from Dolcis. I do remember Madcap - thanks for that hippo girl, and also Ralph's the fur shop opposite The Bentinck. All of my memories of the 70's are boutique related! I used to parade myself in The Babel on Huntingdon street with a Cinzano and lemonade thinking I was totally fabulous,
