I've just read the book 'Radford' by Chris Richards and feel sure I'm in the Forster Street school photo taken in 1957 ( on the page facing the contents page if anyone has the book ) my sister says it isn't me but I think I recognise other kids in the picture. I'd appreciate anyone reading this to check and see if they are in the picture. I was born on Croydon Road in 1952 and lived there until getting married in 1973. Great memories of Radford in the hard days. Nine of us lived in a mid terraced house on Croydon Road, two beds and an attic, outside toilet and a yard where the tin bath an

These 3 roads of terraced houses run between Churchfield Lane through to Radford Bolevard. I beleive they were built around 1900-1910. Can anyone help dating them please. Thanks

The thread about Radford Mill and Radford Baths reminded me of two aunts who lived on Garden Street, Radford. Their house was in this space which is now used as a car park, like this......... http://i.imgur.com/uq37HLd.jpg Picture the Past have a photo of Garden Street in the 1950s; this is looking towards Denman Street. My aunts' house was on the extreme left of the photo, just about visible. That's where the low railings are in the car park picture above. http://i.imgur.com/k4woy2m.jpg

This map dated 1920 show what changes have taken place in Radford over the years. In 1965 I lived near the Northeast corner of Norton Street/Hartley Road. (in this map north is left) The south east corner at that time was mostly waste land with a big old house. The map shows other buildings, can anyone tell me what they were or when they were demolished? Walking along Norton street from Hartley Road toward Independant street, the Large penultimate building on the left, I believe was some kind of church hall were the Bucket Bashers used to meet. What are your memories of these long demolish

Hi all Well, like a lot of folks I'm looking for the elusive ancestors of my family who were living in the Radford and Hyson Green areas...in particular Lenton Terrace, Hyson Green which is not on a lot of maps I have seen. Does anyone know of this?? My family moved to this area around 1870 and were around Bovill Street, Independent Street, Ossington Street and Moorgate Street. ( yes they moved a lot!!!) The son ended up marrying a girl who lived in De Ligne Street,(23) and from there my family lived in Sneinton, Basford, West Bridgford and Edwalton. Their surnames were Jones and Atkins an

Hi, just seen your maps page and have been looking for ages to find a map showing Wright street off Bluebell hill and Chapel street off Ilkeston road, could you please advise me of where I could get a copy. I lived at these addresses while awaiting my father’s return from the far east in 1946 and would dearly love to show my family where this was. Best regards A.G.Smith(cimerron)

Can anyone tell me was there a Piggins or Pippins Yard Radford in 1891 and if so where it was. I have the Yardley family from my past that lived there according to the 1891 Census.

Does anybody have a photo of the former butcher's shop on the corner of Norton Street & Byfield Street, no 151? That was my great-grandfather's house and I remember visiting my gt-grandma, who still lived there until just before she died, aged 97, in the early 80s. The house was entered, from Byfield Street, through a back yard with the outside toilet on one side, and the back door into the tiny kitchen on the other. There was only one water tap, no plumbed-in hot water system. For all the time I remember visiting there, she lived in just the one room. There was a door down to the co

Mid-late 60's, I lived near the corner of Norton Street with Hartley Road. One corner was the chemist, (I was in the next house on Norton street after the alleyway that ran up to the next road), opposite was a shop owned by an asian family that was an Anorak Factory ( :D Honest!, Remember that blue quilted nylon). But for that shop, there may have been no Trainspotters? On the other corner was Barratts Sweet Factory. and on the 4th corner was some waste land with a big house, which I was informed used to be a childrens home? Later that Land was built on. Clifford Court? and other blocks of l

My Grandparents Nottingham through & through... Back to topic.. fleeting memories, out of the plainsman, first right down a hill, on the left a small entrance to a park... A substantial building on the left!!!! council???? (Third time) the fenced off area I initially thought electri

Help please! I hope I am not imagining this. I was born in 1951, I lived on Independent Street and went to Douglas Road school. I remember walking home and cutting through what must have been Radford mill. I walked up Garden Street then went left into a factory area. I walked through and came out on Norton Street. Now here’s where I am struggling, I vividly remember seeing small boats floating in a small pool on the right hand side as I walked through. Was there some sort of boat repairer there? My brother who is 3 years older than me thinks I am making it up, I can’t find anything about it so

Friesland, Old Radford, is mentioned in a newspaper article of 1840. Have managed to establish that Radford Grove Lane, which still exists, was in Friesland. Prospect Place was also classed as being in Friesland. Any idea of the exact area of Friesland, please? Going away in a couple of hours for a few days, so if any replies, don't think I'm ignoring you! Thanks

I'm digging into early football in Nottingham. Notts Olympic were a Radford based club, active from 1884 to 1892, then reformed to play again until 1914. Their ground throughout was Churchville Ground, Churchfield Lane, which opened in 1884, in use until 1915, somewhere near St Peter’s Church,Radford. I have been unable to identify exactly where this ground was. The Nottm Journal of 20.8.1884 says “at Friesland” but the ground was generally known as Churchville. The possibilities, running up from the south are as follows. Close to St Peter’ Church, in what is now part of the graveyard. I pace

Now theres a thing Radfordred. Is the old variety club still there? The last time I was in there was about 1970. I remember the Organist getting up and going to the bar to get a pint. The organ continued playing. I was amazed. :o This was the coming of modern technology!

Does anybody have any old photographs of Trafalgar Street area in the late 1950's to 1964? I used to live at 46 Trafalgar Street during this period and attended Berridge Road Junior and Secondary School. Are there any books on Old Radford during this period? Thank you. Geoffrey

Whilst I have been perusing picture the past, I came upon a picture of Douglas school, Harvest festival, 1957. Among the toddlers on there I could swear I saw my youngest brother John. He is sitting on the bottom row. WHAT A SUPRISE !! Also there was a written article by a Val Jayacoddy who talked about Christ church garden, that used to be on Ronald street. She mentioned about playing in the unkempt side of the grounds and finding some money in the old wall. That really was a shock as I was the miscreant who knocked the brick out and found the dosh. In the rush of kids, I got the princely sum
