bimblebee 0
Hope someone can help me. I have been doing some family research, and found that one of my ancestors, a Thomas Pressley, farmer around the Worksop area was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment at Nottingham Spring Assizes, 1876, for 'rioting'. Were there any major riots in the county around that time? Would I be able to get access to further information to find out more? Thanks.
Cliff Ton 10,465
Out of curiosity, why the link for a book on Amazon?
.... 23
Were there some 'bread riots' around that time in Nottingham (or maybe a little before)?
bimblebee 0
Cliff Ton - the link is to my novel which is set in north Nottinghamshire. When I joined the forum and said that I was a local writer some people were interested in what I had written so I have since included the link. Stu - thank you for the suggestion about the bread riots, I will have a look into that.
.... 23
here's some history of rioting in Nottinghamshire. Unfortunately it doesn't quite go up to the date you require bimble. Some turbulent times indeed from Nottingham's 'infuriated rabble'. http://peopleshistreh.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/handout-to-be-printed-as-double-a3_correction.pdf (4000)

Bubblewrap 3,815
There were some "disturbances" during the 1874 general election. "History of Nottingham Edited by John Beckett page308"
PrioriesHistoricalSociety 0
Hi Bimblebee, Looks like he was caught up in the East Retford & Bassetlaw Election riots on 25th February - it was mostly miners from Shireoaks colliery that were involved. Do you have any further details?

meeowed 314
I saw some papers at angel row library that during the bread riots a local mill owner was dragged from his house and taken to weekday cross where he was severely pumped on Another report on the castle fire seemed to suggest that it was a put up job it stated that all the ceilings had been knocked through to make sure that the fire spread meeowed
