philmayfield 6,089
Are they feral or are they the genuine Scottish wildcats?

philmayfield 6,089
I’ve been reading up about Scottish wildcats and I didn’t realise that ‘true’ wildcats were a such a very rare breed. Obviously your cats will be feral but they do sometimes interbreed with the true wildcats.
Jill Sparrow 10,267
The Scottish Wildcat was, for some time I believe, classed as an endangered species but I read somewhere that their numbers are increasing. They are GORGEOUS but then I love cats of all descriptions!
PeverilPeril 3,268
Jill - If you took in a true Scottish wildcat your cats would be dinner! There are very few people that have seen a true wildcat. Most that have been filmed are part feral. Compo will know more.
Beekay 5,094
I once heard somebody say that true Wildcats were the only animal that would attack for the sheer hell of it.

Jill Sparrow 10,267
I know, PP. Friends always maintain that if I found a sabre toothed tiger on the doorstep, I'd say it was cute and give it a tin of Whiskas! I just love cats!
Compo 10,326
PP: I have only seen a true Scottish wildcat once. It was drinking at a mountain stream early one morning. The nearest house was several miles away - which is about as close to us as they will go. Phil: ours are a feral colony. Jill: The true wildcat is indeed endangered. It hasn't stopped the wind farm boys from applying to put up a huge wind farm in a territory know to contain wildcats though. A Public Enquiry turned down the application because of the wildcats but the developers have appealed to the Scottish government and look likely to get consent to destroy the wildcat habitat. Don't be fooled by SNP propaganda about how nice they are.
Jill Sparrow 10,267
To me, Compo, cats are more important than people. In fact, any animal which is endangered is more important than people!
Beekay 5,094
Jill, I'm an endangered species. I'm the only one left of four.
