This was on Facebook.   What happens to old Mods.

I remember seeing Bolt at R.O.T in 1961, was it him or some other biker who had barbed wire wrapped around his jacket? His outfit was known as Bolt's Coffin. Another guy called Johnny Dench had a com

No,no,no,no,no, oh ok then. Many years ago on a Nottingham Forest trip to Lyon . Lots of beer, then lots of Cotes Du Rhone, then a "bumpy" taxi ride to the ground shook me up so I fell into the arms

i remember being at the dungeon on one of pete stringfellows nights when a whole load of rockers came down to sought out the mods. pete cooled the whole situation somehow and it all came to nothing. i became a pete stringfellow fan that night, i had good mates on both sides

What, you mean the rockers actually got in, cos I thought that would've been almost impossible,

or did Mr S go outside to sort it?

I do remember one midweek night, immediately before Goose fair where some of the fair boys came down to cause aggro, I cant recall if they did though, but a mate who had worked on the fair for a while was singled out by the mini boys, and got a pasting before Pete Lemon stepped in.

Oh, MG, there are two threads relating to The Dungeon also in the 60's bit.

Hi MG, thats the point I was making....did they get in? Cos I dont see how they could, thats what I meant, and yes, I certainly would have gone outside to them, if I was Pete!! I remember someone questioning his sexuality when he was dj'ing at The Dungeon once, and Petes reply was that if 6 girls would care to line up on stage, he would.....ahem.....you know what!!!

hi craig, i didn,t hear that, dont think there is any question about his sexuality from what weve seen and heard on the media, but who knows?. maybe i,m being nieve but i cant remember another era when there was such a split over music and fashion. then again i was bringing a family up by the early seventies off the scene so to speak. were you down there when the dixie cups were on? never saw anything fall so flat as when they tried to rally support for the boys in vietnam.

No I didnt go to that one, I remember a similar response from us regulars when Mick the owner tried to put on a band that was promoted as,"Not so much a band, more a way of life" or very similar, they were called This End, and were a pshychedelic outfit, needless to say, they got more than a few boos!

Once when I was going down the stairs, The Action were coming up, it made my day that i got so close to them! A similar thing happened with Amen Corner too. And dont get me started on how I shook Lee Dorsey, and Edwin Starrs hands! Odd to think now, that his widow has watched me perform recently at The Westgate Suites!"

I recall that strange glow when I shook Edwins hand too, I was lucky to get dragged on stage (With others) to sing backing vocals for him at Madisons once.

Hang on, i think I know Jimmy, and Geoff, I might be wrong but didnt they come from Sneinton? That bit may be wrong, but before I sterted going to The Dungeon, a mate, in fact the one beaten up by the mini boys, had a "club"well, it was basically a room that was linked to a Baptist church, and to get it, we had to go to church regularly.

Anyway, we opened it on Monday nights, swappd the light bulbs for coloured ones, and used an Elpico record player to blast out the sounds of the day, including soul and Motown. Im certain that some of the guys you mention used to come.

Did Jimmy have a bit of a...lets say, a different walk?

And no MG, not a musician, im a dj, and more than once ive had Jean Starr dancing to what I played! Although when I joined Radio Trent in 1980, they altered my real surname down to Strong, and, apart from here, thats what ive been known as since, unless I mention my proper one to link to my ice hockey playing dad.

yes Baz was big, 6ft 6 and around 21 stone, sadly he died last year, once saw him pick one bloke up and hit another with him at Blackpool, Big Mick also 6'6" was also in the fight and a Blidith miner, he was little only about 6'4" ! Can just imagine when the geordies got back home "Whey Man, never go to nottingham for a fight, they're all giants!" (more so back then 1969ish)
