Adam Foster 0
Hello everyone. Does any body remember Hazards on Canning Circus. I have vague memories shopping there with my Mum.
mick2me 3,033
Welcome Adam Shopping for what?
Adam Foster 0
Thanks for your reply. It was a general store. I remember a bank of wooden drawers and the old time scales
mick2me 3,033
Can you remember where on Canning Circus?
Adam Foster 0
It was just around the corner from 'The Sir John Bolace Warren' pub
mick2me 3,033
In the centre of Canning Circus?
Cliff Ton 10,435
It was just around the corner from 'The Sir John Bolace Warren' pub What years are we talking about? And which corner? If you are back in the 50s/60s, from the Borlase you could go round the corner on to Derby Road or round the other corner on to Ilkeston Road, when Ilkeston Road still came right up there. (If you don't recognise it, the Borlase in on the left and Ilkeston Road is coming up the middle)
poohbear 1,360
Cyrus Hazard...grocer...also a shop at Radcliffe on Trent....long gone.
Cliff Ton 10,435
So with poohbear's information, it turns out to be one of the few remaining buildings at that top corner of Ilkeston Road. It was one of these shops (The Borlase is on the left)
Trevor S 2,003
Good morning poohbear, please prompt the old memory cells and tell me where the shop of Cyrus Hazard was in Radcliffe on Trent.
poohbear 1,360
Read it somewhere no idea myself, he had another Denman street way.Cyrus Hazard 1870/1942 is buried in the Rock Cemetery.
Blocco 3
It appears that much of Radcliffe on Trent was demolished in the 60s. Cyrus Hazard's appears at around the 5 minute mark in this old film:
Michael Booth 7,364
Welcome to Nottstalgia, Blocco. I look forward to reading your posts and sharing your memories. An excellent video that I enjoyed watching despite never living in R.O.T. You can tell it was filmed before Health & Safety took over.
TBI 2,351
Welcome to the site, Blocco. As a nearly R.O.T resident, I very much enjoyed watching the video.
Trevor S 2,003
Welcome to Nottstalgia, Blocco. I look forward to sharing your memories.. Thoroughly enjoyed watching ROT Parts 1 & 2. Took me back to my childhood and youth as I watched the ROT that I remember. Recognised most of the places and few others I did not. Hazard's was on the corner of Lorne Grove and you can see the old chemist on the other corner. But as you say, demolition is widespread and the ROT of old looks like a war zone! Thanks again.......................
