I used to work at Aurdrey's Hair salon owned by Alan Simms. Now Simmy used to own 7/8 salons so you can work out how many staff he had all the salon's had at least 4/6 girls. On Friday nights we used to all meet at the Salutation sitting in the upstairs on the back seats, can any one remember this? used to have a good night out can't ever remember going home but must have got there though as we all turned up at work next day.

Friday night was with my first girlfriend -as regular as clockwork to the Savoy with Christine and on the otherside as chaperone (for a while) Pam ! Excitement ++ 60 years later I still meet up with Chris and her hubby on my visits to UK.

Would love to know what your route round Nottingham was and where you ended up.

Sounds like a good topic to compare our 'weekend in town' activities

I am sad to say the last time i had a pub crawl with work mates in Notts was about 1965, and we went all round the Square, calling in every pub we passed, great laugh,is my memory right, did Yates have sawdust on the floor and music with a violinist. When i used to come home to visit family we used to go up the city on pub crawls,Start at King Billy at Snienton and then into town,we ended up in Admiral Duncan one night,It was a predominately a Gay Pub,We had so much fun and made so welcome that we didn't move on that night,The Bell and Flying Horse were faves,My Hubby from West Mids Absolutely loved the night life in the pubs ,he couldn't get over all the characters we met up with.Of course the old style pubs have gone now and they are to noisy for this old bird, give me the type of pub like in Sat night and Sunday Morn film.

OK , I have been wanting to do this for a long while, but it might upset me to remember all the happy times in the city (And to think of how much money I wasted on 'wobbly water')

Sundays was The Tavern in the Town, White Lion (Clumber Street) Fountain, QE for a quick one, Malt House, The Bodiga, upstairs in the Thurland for a bit of Stu Morris' soul disco, round to the Irish bar on Thurland Street (Rosie O'Gradys ?) back to the White Lion and finish off the night in The QE, last bus back to Carlton Square and a sing song all the way home !!

Happy Days.

The last time I did a 'Friday night slum' around town must have been 68/69.Always ending the night in 'Yates', then on to a party.

These days I can just manage to 'crawl 'to bed.

Friday night was . More than likely , off the 8 o'clock bus. White Lion, Fountain , QE, Malt House, Thurland, then across the square, Yates', Tavern in the Town, Number 10, Fox, Stage Door then up Arabellas.
Saturday was very similar!!!
God I sound like a right Pi55 head !

Sometimes after a few pints my mate and I would take a burn down the M1 to Trowel services on our motorbikes. In those days the booze limit for driving was IIRC 3 pints.

Ah yes, Mecca Village was the place to go for a late night coffee. Quite a novelty to drive out to the motorway in the 60's just because we could.

We would always go up to Woodhall services, 7 of us in my mates TR7 !!!! One driving, two on the passenger seat, two on the parcel shelf and two in the boot.!!!

I can always remember the time we were going up and this strange noise rose from the boot, Richard Fletcher (Who was a dab hand on the Saxophone) had not only managed to assemble his Sax, but had somehow got it in his mouth and was treating us to his very own version of "Baker Street" (Bare in mind there were two of them in there at the time too !)

Hi mary1947 here

Can any of you out there remember the pub in town with the longest bar? Was it Trumans? I was not at the time old enough to drink but my other half was and he remembers going in there but can't remember the name must have been good ale.

Was the Fly Horse where women of the night worked? Yate's I seem to remember that the music came from a trio piano, violin and double bass. I wonder what happened to them.

Mary1947 Thanks for the info but I think the pub that I mentioned was on the Market Square but I could be wrong

The ladies of the night worked from the pub next door but a couple from the flying horse. For the life of me I cannot recall the name of th epub but it was a run down place in my time. I was once propositioned there.

The staff in the Goose Fair Bar (FH) were astounding. they could serve multiple folk at once and carry more glasses than a pack horse! Friday nights would see people three deep at the bar yet no-one waiting more than a minute or tow for service.

Think it began with C, would it be County? I also think it's still open. I remember my Mum telling me about that place so never went in there, just spent a lot of time in the Flying Horse after it was done up. Mum also told me that 'ladies of the night' would frequent 'The Trip' and have 12/6d on the sole of their shoes!

Our Friday tour was based on The Fly, The Sal, Royal Kids, Imperial, Bell, Yates, Tavern and Mortimers Cavern. Sometimes a variation around the Dog & Bear, Thurland, Newmarket and of course Frodos/Warrows. Rob L would remember.
