Radio Trent July 1975 - January 2011 (RIP)

Would have been 38 this month

"Trent FM was an Independent Local Radio station which broadcast to Nottinghamshire. The station merged with two other East Midlands stations,Leicester Sound and Ram FM to form Capital FM East Midlands (part of Global's Capital FM Network) on Monday 3 January 2011" (Wikipedia)

The only ones I recognise on here are John Peters and Dale Winton?

Wiki article about the late Graham Knight.

From 2002 to his death, Graham owned and ran a specialist Tea, Coffee and Chocolate shop in Sherwood, Nottingham called 'General Store',selling a range of packed and loose teas and coffees, including his own blends, and unique imports such as 'Georgian Old Lady' and 'Georgian Old Gentleman'

I thought that was Grahame Knight kneeling on the right. But I shall bow to your greater knowledge on this subject than mine.

It's a pleasure, I just wish I had more time to get on here like I used to when I didn't have a daily show! :(

By the way, at the time the pic was taken, Graham Knight had moved to the Beeb, and Pete, older brother of Rob Wagstaff was at Beacon in Wolverhampton, or as their locals called it, Bacon Radiow.

In case you wonder where the people in the pic, and indeed other Trent/Gem AM presenters are now, here's the answer.

Basically there are two Internet only radio stations that are now the "homes" for us old Trenters!

Radio Trent 301 has John Peters, Guy Morris, Jeff Cooper, Ron Coles ,Jeff Owen, and Tim Rogers.

Solid Gold Gem AM has myself, Andy Marriott ( Marrow) Len Groat, Krissi Carpenter, Paul Burbank, and Mark Mason.

The current Trent in actuality is not reproducing what was played on the original, although obviously now and then those songs do appear.

Whereas Solid Gold Gem AM is doing exactly what the original Gem AM did, complete with the jingle packages made in Dallas, and put together now, as then, by Len Groat.

Is there a playlist anywhere for the test transmissions that were broadcast? Being bored with BBC Radio Nottingham, we used to leave the wireless tuned to Trent, waiting for it to start live broadcast.

I recall "Misty" by Ray Stevens and "I'm not in love" by 10cc

Who was the radio Trent DJ with the big mouth who used to insult all the callers when they rang in. Think he did a sports program.

Also not sure when he joined but Kid Jenson was also at Radio Trent back then. I remember because when he left to join Radio one, I sold him a pair of Koss headphones (I was working at Laskys at the time) Apparently you had to take your own back then.

One other memory I have about Trent is that I remember being in a queue to get into a nightclub on Wollaton street back in the late 70's (The name of the club escapes me) Dale Winton was in the queue ahead of me and they wouldn't let him in because he was wearing trainers. He'd had a few drinks and said something along the lines of "Do you know who I am" they did, but still didn't let him in. He wasn't orange back then either.

Grandad was Andy Twigg (Twiggy)

Dick Stone is programme controller at the truly awful Crapitall FM .

And afaik ms Pennels is still at the Beeb.

Going back to my student days, (1977ish) I worked at Nottingham Hospitals Radio and I am sure David Lloyd was there at the time. I was there the same time as Rob Wagstaff.

If I remember correctly, the station manager (who will remain nameless) and a few others got caught with their hands in the till.

Rubbish, Radio Nottingham certainly doesn’t ‘sound’ middle-class.  I only listen to that station between 9am and midday, Sunday to Friday as they are the presenters I enjoy hearing, John Holmes and Mark Dennison. The rest of them are wafflers but there’s a new one (a female) in the evenings who definitely sounds very wokkin’ class ......... talks about Nottin-num all the time,  arghhh!   No excuse.

Lizzie, wow, I can't believe John Holmes is still at Radio Nottingham. I remember him doing the lunchtime show back in the early 70s.
