darkazana 1,736
Good to see that a local company has benefitted from the royal baby already. His shawl was made by a company in Chilwell and since last night they have received enquiries and orders from all over the world. And hopefully no one can find fault with his name, nothing more down to earth than George.

jackson 301
Love the name of the new Royal Prince: George; Solid and Strong - no fuss. The choosing of this name by William and Kate must have given the Queen immense happiness - in loving memory of her beloved father King George V1. '..................Send her Victorious, Happy and Glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen.' Many, many Cheers for the new Royal Prince, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hoor............................................................

Commo 1,292
Beef, re #83, I seem to recall that Charles was not thought to be a "positive" name as this would perhaps hark back to the first two of this name, the First having lost his head, the Second for his dalliances !!

StephenFord 866
I have heard (Don't ask me where) that Prince Charles will be King George VII for some strange reason Don't forget that George VI was actually Albert (or Bertie!) and before him Edward VIII was David. Charles has Arthur, Philip or George to choose from - but George VII does sound the most likely.

Compo 10,326
Woman has a baby? What woman's that then?? When I was a kid I would have been a Royalist. I then grew up to see what their kind were like and how they treated their slaves (for slaves they were in all but name). I am now a staunch Labour man. (Old labour)

StephenFord 866
Neither am I a fan of the new socialist conservative party. Why the dickens can't they all be what it says on the tin, instead of trying to masquerade as what they aren't - mutton dressed up as lamb (or pantomime horse dressed up little lord fauntleroy). Coffers77 34
I do not believe in hereditary privilege as it goes against every democratic principle therefore I support the end of the monarchy to be replaced by an elected, democratic head of state. The Head of State would be chosen by the people on a time limitation, not to run the government (e.g US model) but to represent the nation independently of our politicians and to referee the legislative system. There is a small but burgeoning pressure group (Republic) who are already holding the monarchy to account e.g. on costs and Charlie's letters. By the way party politics doesn't really come into it. Supporters of a republic can and do come from across the political spectrum.
