Remember seeing a photo of myself and my sister in a tin bath being pushed along by my Dad along Summers Street. My Dad was up to his waist in water. March '47 I would have been three. Also remember my Mam lowering a basket from the first floor window for a delivery of milk and bread.

I am trying to help my niece with a college project she is doing about the 1947 floods in the meadows......... she is after any old photos or memories anyone might have........

Any info no matter how small would be very much appreciated...

There is also a book entitled THE MEADOWS remembered by David Mcvay

ISBN 0 7524 1890 4 published in 2000 reprinted in 2004

You may be able to get a copy second hand or

Try the city information shop on Smithy Row(under the council house)

Contains son written memories & photographs of the 1947 floods

After trying numerous search terms can't find any 1947 flood mentions in the Nottingham papers in the online archives . Maybe the newspapers got wet !

However this chart of the weather in the 3 months prior is interesting .

The temperature scale on the left says "minimum daily temperature" and if that 17th Jan temp of 50 degrees is a minimum , that is quite remarkable . After that there is nearly two months of frost until the thaw around the 8th March .
