Pixie 162
We used to call it a pantry at mums before hers was knocked through when the kitchen got done. Under the stairs in my house is a 'cubby hole' no idea where that stems from. Another one - is it a quilt or a duvet? I say quilt, the other half says duvet!
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Quilt, only posh folk say duvet....When I was a kid, two thousand years ago, it was an "eider down".

colly0410 1,181
#1 - Larder wasn't too posh for the Russians to drive round in though ! I had a Lada Riva for 6 years, never let me down, only thing I had to pay for was a new cam-belt at 30,000 miles (recommended in handbook). Replaced it with a Citroen BX, that was always conking out, a big heap of sh**..
Bilbraborn 1,594
Parlour or lounge or sitting room or just front room?
Pixie 162
I call ours a 'living room'
Bilbraborn 1,594
Is the trendy new word 'Family Room'?
Pixie 162
Never heard anyone apart from people with big houses call it a family room. The living room is the room you spend most of your time in... Makes sence as you pretty much 'live' in it. I call my dinning room the 'back room' though, it has the dinning table etx in it... Don't do much 'dinning' in it though!

tomlinson 879
When camping with the RAF we used 'thunder buckets'. It was often said when getting back to civilization that it was nice to hear a satisfying splash instead of a dull thud.

Pixie 162
Ok, may sound abit divvy, but what's the WC about with abathroom? ... We call it the loo! Unless wwere going to have a batj or shower then it's the bathroom.
LizzieM 9,497
Water Closet
Pixie 162
That's a stupid name for it. Water closet? Never seen a bath, handbasen n a loo in a closet before.
StephenFord 866
Ah, but its the old name - to distinguish it from, shall we say, the other sort of closet that didn't have flushing water... But let's not go there!
