benjamin 1945, a typical night out in Nottingham then.

cobnotbap, welcome to this great forum, you might be better trying to sell your Carlton on one of the bike forums, get more money for it, try "retrobike" or "cyle chat" there are some Carlton specialists on there who know about the value of these bikes, good luck with the sale

Now then Rog (Plantfit) have you ever come across a bicycle that is ridden sidesaddle? We saw a guy riding one the other week while we were in Miami. If I hadn't been so amazed at what I'd seen I might have had time to take a photo of him, he was certainly enjoying the attention he was getting from everyone he rode past.

Lizzie, not seen a side saddle bike but have seen one where two cyclists ride either side of the main frame and pedal one crank each, must be a right sod to balance though, saw a two seat recumbent bike yesterday in Woodhall Spa when doing the weekly shop, similar to a tandem but lying recumbent to ride it,how would you ride side saddle, keep pedaling and maintain balance?sounds like fun though, rode two years ago with a couple who built a four wheeled bike "quadricycle", we were in the Leicester skyride, I understand they went on their honeymoon on the thing complete with luggage,I have a pic somewhere and will post it when I get time, you meet some great characters when out cycling (must meet Carni and her husband when out on their bikes one day)

I've just been googling, as you do on a fine Sunday morning. I've found a few pictures of a similar contraption on ''Sideways Bike - Original'. It's at the bottom of the page, along with newspaper headlines about it. There's a chap riding one, he's wearing a denim shirt, and the bike has full size wheels. Not sure if it's the same one because as I said earlier, he whizzed past us we didn't get a real good look (but the man looked very much like the one in the photo. Sorry, I don't know how to put links on here.

Picture as promised, a quadricycle, these two guy's built this out of old bike parts and some angle iron,a bit of welding and a few bespoke fabrications, both of them pedal it but it is only steered by the "driver" the one on the left, they left their wedding reception on this with their luggage and rode off to their honeymoon, lovely couple, very friendly and interesting to talk to about bikes of all kinds, I have some pics from the same ride with some spectacular looking bikes, I will post them in a bit

Another pic from Sky ride, hand crafted cruiser style bikes, some of them have electric assist motors fitted in the rear wheel, note the long handled shovel he has used for a seat

Managed to have a ride on this creation on a Leicester sky ride, lets just say it was different, the guy who builds these has a workshop in Leicester and he makes all sort of cycles out of old donated cycles, he converts a lot to carry or assist disabled folk who otherwise would not have access to cycling,a great bloke in my opinion

I built a trike two years ago that can be rowed. It is called my Village Cruiser. I plan to fit a pillion seat for my great grandkids to ride on.

I really must learn how to post pictures.

Also have a penny farthing (ordinary) C1880 that needs re building.
