Tim in the North East 200
In the late 1950s and 1960s (and possibly later) there was an Italian restaurant that used to have a projected advert in the cinemas in between films - which I believe was located in one of the alleys that lead from Long Row/Angel Row to Upper Parliament Street. Can anyone remember what it was called - and whether it is still in business? Tim
Rob.L 1,084
There is an Italian restaurant in Hurts Yard. It's now called Primo Piano, but it didn't used to be called that. I remember going there in the 70s, but damned if I can remember what it's name was then. http://open-cuisine.co.uk/View-69-PrimoPianoRestaurant

Rob.L 1,084
Could be, HG. I seem to recall it had a narrow entrance near the bottom of Hurts Yard, then up a flight of stairs.
Tim in the North East 200
Yes - I think that is the one - and I think it had a neon sign tracing out its name.

Ampex 5
Just noticed this posting. Someone mentioned the Trattoria Conti and referred to it as being on a first-floor location in Wheeler Gate - which indeed it was in its latter years. Originally though, it opened on St. James' Street in 1967, where it was in the basement of the former Victorian music hall The Malt Cross. It was, I believe, re-named La Contessa in the early 70s. It was a lovely restaurant with excellent food and staff.

bamber 128
Topo Gigios was the Italian restaurant on Hurts Yard.
Unmade Marian 26
Yes, I remember it as Topo Gigio's. Topo Gigio was a puppet mouse on the TV in the 60s and there was a picture of one similar (probably not paid for the copyright) on the billboard. Yes, it was upstairs. Enigma. 1,533
Topo Gigio's location behind the bus
nonnaB 4,893
I cant remember Topo Gigio's but the location became Lydios which he called Il Nido ( the nest) then it became Cafe de Paris but then the original in London or somewhere objected to them using the same name and it was changed to Petite Paris. When I was last in Nottingham January last year I popped in to say hello to them all as they were colleagues of my husbands years ago. None of the original staff was there . The nephew of one of the owners or staff now can't remember who had taken over. So whether they had sold or just retired I dont know.
