Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Now that the chemotherapy has ended I am virtually back where I was before; being normal and not really aware of my cancer condition except for little things that

Right then Miducks. Today my Cardioligist has given me the news I didn't dare hope for. All of my tests results are good and I start reducing a lot of the Heart Meds over the next two weeks. Starting

My last report (page 31, post 770) had my PSA number down to 10.7. It had shot up to 61 before the horse pills (Enzalutamide) arrested its upward trend. Today I went for a routine visit to oncology at

Did you read the link? I guess not or you wouldn't be shouting at me.

My opinion is that there has been a sea change in the way PSA is viewed by the medical profession.

Research has shown that random screening isn't good, and no-longer recommends it.

I will choose to wait and see if I get symptoms. If I do then I will watch for changes in my prostate as suggested by urologists.

Remember only one in forty people actually die OF prostate cancer. The rest die WITH it.

The other thirty nine must get something else quite serious if they end up in the morgue.

Stop obsessing about just one ailment. The odds are it won't be the one that kills you, me or Stan.

I AM NOT SHOUTING AT YOU DO YOU ACTUALLY REALISE THAT ONE IN FORTY IS GREATER DEATH RATETHAN A LOT OF CANCERS YOU ARE LOOKING IN THE SINGULAR WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK AT IS WORLDWIDE TOTAL OF PC AND WORK OUT ALL THOSE EXAMPLE 40 MILLION WORLDWIDE EQUALES1 MILLION DEATHS THATS SOMETHING I CANT IGNORE THE WORLD IS DESPERATE FOR A SIMPLE TEST BUT AS OF TODAY THERE ISNT ONE AND THATS THE ANSWER AS YOU KNOW BECAUSE I KNOW YOU WOULD HAVE GOOGLED IT YOU ARE RIGHT THERE IS A LOT OF PROMISING POSSIBILITIES BUT AS OF YET NONE ARE BEING USED. SO THE CRAP THEY QUOTE IS USELESS UNTIL IT IS AVAILABLE FOR ALL SO UNTIL THEY ARE GET TESTED BECAUSE YOU LL PROBABLY DIE BY THE TIME THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL. .I DONT FEEL DEBATING WITH YOU AS BEEN A WASTE OF TIME I THINK WE HAVE COVERED A LOT OF ISSUES ORDINARY UNEDUCATED PEOPLE LIKE ME WOULD WANT TO KNOW I KNOW JACK SHIT BUT I DO KNOW TO LISTEN TO PEOPLE THAT ARE GENUINELY CONCERNED FOR MINE ANDOTHERS WELFARE WHICH I FELT MY SURGEON WAS IT WAS HIM WHO TOLD ME ABOUT INFECTIONS.

Yes 40 million = 1 million deaths, but it also means 39 million died of something else.

I'm not afraid of cancer. There is no cancer in my family on either side. Add to that, the average time PC takes to kill someone is 17 years.

I'll be 77 by then. I'll take my chances. Some people can't bear to know they have a cancer living inside them and even commit suicide or have drastic surgery. Cancer cells are your own cells. They are a part of you. It's not like some kind of alien invasion.

I'll watch and wait and hope for the best.

Bilboro-lad your dependence on google for your information indicates you are not an expert on prostate cancer.

A.Charlesworth had a Gleason score of 7 and a type 2 tumour, that means that his chances in getting recurrent prostate cancer are medium.

Like me he had a PSA test and a rectal examination (DRE), his decision, this led to further tests, his decision, the biopsy to ascertain what type of cancer, benign or malignant, and if malignant, how serious, (Gleason score), next an M.R.I scan will show the position and size of the tumour, and whether it has spread (advanced prostate cancer). Next he will have been given the choice of watchful waiting, active surveillance, surgery, or radiotherapy, probably with hormone therapy. Brachytherapy and cryotherapy are also options in some areas.

At all stages we are given all the relevant information and also encouraged to do our own research, at all stages we are never rushed into our decisions. I had consultations with the consultant surgeon and the radiotherapist, as well as three different specialist nurses. These people are experts, and based on their advice I opted for laproscopic radical prostatectomy, my decision.

All the experts that I met are in favour of PSA testing.

Until something better is developed, I recommend that men over 50 have the test.

Why did you have a test? Was it random testing? Or did you have symptoms?

Did you read the link I provided about the Association of American Urologists?

They have all changed their minds on random testing.

Or from Cancer Research UK:

Professor Malcolm Mason, Cancer Research UK’s prostate cancer expert, added: “I hope that this research brings forward the day when I can say to patients: ‘We know that your cancer doesn’t need treatment’ – a crucial development that could spare thousands of patients from enduring arduous treatment with unpleasant side effects."

ALISON CC I AM SOMETIMES LAZY WITH CAP LOCKS AND TO BE HONEST IT DOES NOT REALLY BOTHER ME IF ITS NOT PRIM AND PROPER TREAT IT LIKE CHILLING OUT WITH FRIENDS DONT DO SPELLING CHECKS EITHER AS YOU HAVE PROBABLY GATHERED NOT BEING FUNNY BUT THINGS LIKE THAT MEANT MORE TO MUNDELLA KIDS AND I GENUINELY DID NOT KNOW THAT I WAS SHOUTING WHEN USING CAPITALS JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT THAT I AM NOT SHOUTING WHEN IUSE THEM. OLDACE WHEN SOMEONE IS NOT WORRIED ABOUT HAVING PROSTATE CANCER OR HAVING CANCER IIN HIS BODY I WOULD QUESTION HISMENTAL HEALTH HIS HE TRYING TO TELL US WE ALL HAVE CANCER CELLS IN OUR BODY. BUT MOST RATIONAL PEOPLE WOULD REALISE TO GET TESTED AND USE THERE OWN JUDGEMENT TO DEAL WITH INFORMATION THEY MAY GAIN.IN ANY WAY THEY FEEL FIT.REGARDS ALISON BILBORO LAD AND OLDACE . ANDY.

We are not at loggerheads. I quite like him and he quite likes me (I think).

The issue is whether the health policies in dealing with prostate cancer have changed or not.

It seems to me that they have and it seems to him that they haven't.

It's all good natured stuff. The thread is worth reading.

There has been 192 posts on this thread and most of them have been repeats of what had already been stated. It is mostly one person against a few people who are suffering from cancer. I'd like to see the final bell and a draw declared because nobody seems to want to back down. I've been on Nottstalgia for a couple of years now and have read posts from many people who tell us all about their lives. Mostly, I feel they are friends and enjoy their posts but then I read that some have a serious illness. I really feel for them and thank God that I'm in, hopefully, good health. I just think that this thread is hurtful to the people who are suffering from cancer and I'd love it if they would beg to differ and call it a draw.

ALISON CC I AM SOMETIMES LAZY WITH CAP LOCKS AND TO BE HONEST IT DOES NOT REALLY BOTHER ME IF ITS NOT PRIM AND PROPER

Well it bothers a lot of other people. SHOUTING that is. No difference to one person bellowing at everyone at a social gathering. Pretty soon they get asked to leave, and so they should be.

The thread is worth reading

Not if one person insists on shouting.

Wherever you go on the internet caps is considered shouting and frowned upon.

However no one has reported any posts in this thread if they have been offended by them.

Board staff cannot be expected to read every post on a busy board and rely on members to report anything of concern.

There are a few issues here as far as i am concerned firstly why would you read posts that may offend you i did explain like stan right,y pointed out i repeat i genuinely did not know capitals was shouting but it is frustrating when people only read what they want to read funny stan read that exactly how it was meant other people joined in this topic mostly because they have experienced in some way what i am talking about i have touched on education different people will communicate in different ways i am an ordinary bloke and communicate like i did in the environment i was brought up the meadows i was brought up in did not talk prim and proper and didnt mind their ps and qs i genuinely felt that issues being raised where worth debating because the reason i started this topic is because i genuinely felt like myself men dont report health issues and the way bilboro lad was talking can be typicalof men to avoid addressing a medical problem i felt regardless of capitals bilboro lad the chap i was mostly talking towas not offended and we did have a private conversation which gave me some insight into the way he felt and from bilboro lads response he recognised i appriciated his honesty even though i stongly disagreed with him if i have offended anybody i appoligise but to me thats the way male mates talk to each other on emotive subjects

Well you haven't offended me mate. I now know far more about the symptoms and testing against prostate cancer than I did.

Like you said, if people find the topic uncomfortable - then simply ignore the topic. Don't read it and then say "Ooh that's awful, I'm really upset."

It was a good discussion that highlighted a serious issue.

We've probably gone as far as we can go now, but it is an issue that will affect most of us. Forewarned is forearmed.
