Charity Show at Theatre Royal

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else remember a charity show that took place at the Theatre Royal in, I think, the late 1960s - just possibly the very early 70s?

I forget what charity it was in aid of. As far as I remember it was on a Sunday night, was for only the one performance and had quite a star-studded lineup which was why my mother and I went to see it.

I remember that Dickie Henderson more or less compered it. Brian Rix appeared and did a stand-up comedy routine rather than appeared in a farce or anything (of course he was/is heavily involved in charity work).

Arthur Askey appeared, and I think Mike Yarwood did also.

June Bronhill provided some musical relief, and I also remember a pianist whose name escapes me, but I think was fairly well-known at the time as a sort of musical director of TV/radio programmes.

As well as those I mentioned I've a vague idea another comedian also appeared but I'm not sure.

Anyone remember?
