stevehyland 0
This certainly fits into the "pre-50s" Nottingham. My grandmother migrated to Australia alone in 1923 aged 17. Her departure address is given as "191 Norton Road, Radford, Notts." Does anyone have a corporate memory or old map of Radford that would identify whether this address was a private address or a hotel or something else. Many thanks in advance. stevehyland
Bubblewrap 3,815
Good morning, And welcome,Ive just had a glance at on of my directories & to begin with it.s Norton Street & it would have been a terraced house. Living there in 1950 was a William Hobkinson. Link below is a picture of the area http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM008791&pos=8&action=zoom&id=60236
DAVIDW 1,674
Welclome Steve , in the news archives 28.06 1921 there is an obituary : "On the 27th inst at 191 Norton Street ,Elizabeth Ann , beloved wife of William Pick , mother of Lucy and Lottie Horne , after much suffering ." Indicates it was a private address . In 1926 there is a letter to a kids club from an Ida Walker at that address Later, right into the 30s and 40s are adverts for joiners and bricklayers at a firm called Griffin at 191a Norton St , which may help locate it . mick2me 3,033
Welcome Stevehyland 1964-1968 I lived at 86a Norton Street. That was the part of Norton Street north of Hartley Road. I have a feeling there was an 86 towards Denman Street.

Bubblewrap 3,815
Byfield Street was between 149 & 151 Norton Street. Hartley Road was between 151 & 153 Norton street. I notice too that there was a 191a Norton Street occupied by a Nathan Lucas Griffin "joiner" That implies tat number 191 was a split property in 1950. Mr Griffin was also listed as a Carpenter in the trades section of the same directory so I would assume that number 191a could have been a workshop. And number 191 was living space above the shop ? annswabey 599
According to the 1911 census, 191 Norton St had 6 rooms (including a kitchen, but not including scullery or bathroom)
