The Pianoman 1,531
Just wonder if any of the people on 'ere who know Hucknall know when the earliest houses on Shortwood Avenue were built. Doing family history research I have recently found out that my Great, Great Grandfather (Edward Harvey) was, from sometime after the 1881 census and sometime before the 1891 census, up until 1911 when he was 73 and possibly up until 1917 when he died, was the Farm Bailiff at Shortwood Farm. Shortwood Ave being built on the site of the farm. I am aware that The Duke of Portland sold the land that the farm was on in 1920 to someone who lived at Bul'ell. Possibly a developer? Long time since I was last on Shortwood Ave but I did drive past it today and it set me thinking. Any info. appreciated TIA
DAVIDW 1,674
This seems to be the earliest mention in the newspaper archives from 3rd August 1934 and could possibly be describing a new house ?
The Pianoman 1,531
Thanks for that. I had guessed that they might be post war
Cliff Ton 10,435
Looking at the Old Maps website (which isn't as helpful as it used to be) Shortwood Avenue doesn't appear in 1921, but it is shown by 1938.
The Pianoman 1,531
Hmmm. Interesting
notty ash 370
Looking at the maps, Shortwood Farm (the building) was nearer the aerodrome than to the Shortwood Estate and survived after the Shortwood houses were built.
