Beards and Tashes

Recommended Posts

Often wonder why men( well mostly men) grow em,ive had a Tash since the 70s when it was very popular, then in the 90s started with Beards, mainly because the kids told me i looked like an out of work (porn actor).Nowadays i have a Beard to cover my scrawny neck, so got me to wondering why?or why not we grow em.

Just fancied a change throughout my life.

60's clean shaven,

70's full beard or tash,

80's Goatee or tash,

90's tash,

Present Goatee.

I have had a beard since the early 1980's, I do a lot of long distance hiking and in the beginning it was a matter of the weight of the shaving kit in my rucksack, and after a few days hiking when I got home I would shave off the growth, but after a while I, thought what the heck, and after hiking the Ridge way in 1982 I decided to keep the fungus and have never shaved it off.

I had a mustache for years but then decided on a beard as I hate shaving, but wifey hates beards so went to a goatee which I quite like, but again according to the wishes of the precious one it makes me look scruffy and old ! so now I go for designer stubble for up to 6 days then shave.

Once a week I can handle I suppose, happy wife happy life.

Full beard, got too lazy to shave, started when I went to work at the UK's only potash mine, we all learned the hard way, NEVER shave before going to work...That crap soon shows how many cuts and nicks shaving gives you. Ended up with very sore neck where the beard goes down.

Beards became the norm at Boulby, after that, just couldn't be bothered to shave anymore. Mines been off about three times since 1977, last time was about 30 years back.

Full beard and 'tash for me too! Grew it when working in the Kalahari Desert and there was not much hot water for shaving back in 1976! It has been off twice since then, both times in order to work in an oil refinery!

In the 80's it was long and unkempt, now I keep it short and trimmed. I do NOT miss shaving every morning, and I think if Mary saw me without it she would run a mile!

Had a tache since I could grow one, started as 'bum fluff' Shaved it off once but got lonely, so grew it back. :)

Had a close cropped beard in the 80s, might find some pics to post if I put my mind to it.

I did get a compliment paid when one of the girls at work was shown an old picture with a beard...

"Oh Mick... You used to be good looking"

Most firemen and police officers I've seen locally, have a tash, including my son. Seems to be part of the uniform!

Don't they look like they've been to an audition for a new version of the Village People?

In never tried to grow sideburns as I couldn't stand the greasy Teddy Boy look, and anyway my hair was curly which was a bit unfashionable at the time. It was great for me when long hair came into fashion. I tried to look like Roger Daltry then Robert Plant.
