Russell 1 Posted May 18, 2014 Report Share Posted May 18, 2014 Hi, I'm moving to Nottingham next month to start a new job, and have been looking at places to live over the weekend. As I'll be working in Keyworth, I was looking at West Bridgford mainly, but looked at a few houses in other areas too. After looking at a lot of places, the one house that stands head and shoulders above the rest is a place in Mapperley Park, but the main sticking point is the worry over the commute, as I've heard that Nottingham is notoriously bad. Would anyone mind telling me how long they reckon it would take to commute from Mapperley Park to Keyworth both during rush hour, and at less hectic times of the day? I live in Mapperley Park and although I've never had to drive to Keyworth in the mornings I would think it would be a fairly easy commute as you'll be going away from town rather than with the masses driving into the city. I don't think that Nottingham traffic is particularly bad and the public transport is really good but not ideal for the route you need to take. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Rob.L 1,088 Posted May 19, 2014 Report Share Posted May 19, 2014 Assuming you would be using either Mansfield Road or Woodborough Road to get to London Road/Melton Road on your way to Keyworth, the worst part of that commute would be the first bit as you tangle with the traffic inbound to the city. During rush hour, that first bit could take 20-30 minutes by itself, with another 15-20 minutes for the rest, in a car. On a (motor) bike, it would probably be half of that. Even without traffic, you still have dozens of traffic lights to negotiate. Have you thought about somewhere like Gamston or Ruddington? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Keyworth is just off the A60 & only about 15 minuets drive from the town centre. & house prices are a little better than Nottingham. And there is also a bus there too. Whatever affection you have for the Mapperley house will soon wear off after a couple of weeks negotiating the traffic, idiot drivers and every other obstacle imaginable. Also, you would have to pass depressing run down areas. That would be sufficient to put me off. South of the Trent maybe a bit more expensive, but it's definitely more pleasant and rural. Had lunch in the Wetherspoons , appeared to be plenty of buses into town .Handy for east coast etc. Or would that be a bit of a faff to get to Keyworth down the A46 ? It sounds like the commute wouldn't be too bad at all, and I had a look at google maps this morning which seemed to confirm that it would be around 25 minutes. Regarding living in Loughborough, Keyworth itself, or elsewhere more rural, I should have mentioned that I'm in my 20s, have just finished uni, I'm single and I've been looking at houseshares. Really I was looking at places not too far away from the city centre, where there are things going on so that I can get to know people in the area. Mapperley isn't necessarily as good for that as West Bridgford, for example, but the houseshare there is ideal. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

piggy and babs 544 Posted May 19, 2014 Report Share Posted May 19, 2014 as you say west bridgeford has a lot of multi occupied houses and is not that far from keyworth and easy to get to nottingham for the night life so i think whould be ideal for your needs taxi back from town quite easy too espesially if two or three of you are shearing the fare not much more than a bus ticket.
