When Blondie came onto the scene in the 70's she was hot and had a great voice and stage presence. I've not seen her for years until I watched mick2me's video of Blondie at Glastonbury. As I watched the video I was disappointed with her as she just seemed to be going through the motions. She still looks good but the fire in her voice wasn't there. I then realised that she's about 70 years of age and had performed her hits for about a hour on stage and it made me change my mind about her performance. I think that when we see people on the TV or live on stage we expect to see them look and perform as they did in their prime. We forget that we are all getting older. I thought the backing was excellent, especially the drummer.

The only act I caught was John Newman and being a soul fan thought he was really good . Close your eyes and you could imagine Otis singing some of his tunes .

The last time I went was in 1982, Van Morrison and Richie Havens, were there, and it rained... nothing changed there.......

I have not been since, because I think it is now too commercialised.

the last festival I ever went to was the Stonehenge Free festival in 1984, I have been to every one since 1976, except the 1982 festival because I was at Glastonbury, I was going to the 1985 festival, but I like a lot of others ended up in what was called The Battle of the Bean Field, and spent a few nights in Klink...........

Yes agree with that, ridiculous ticket prices put me off years ago.

Sadly the same with football, motor racing, air displays, car parking and most other things in the free society we live in today.

This morning I have watched on the red button Fontaines D.C. (Glad I got in early the Rock City gig next year sold out over night) Watched Idles, powerful stuff, a cocksure Liam Gallagher, Johnny Marr (possibly the best guitarist ever) & an American rapper called Lizzo, not my normal bag, but mesmerising, check her out!

Saturday night, feet up in the recliner, glass of wine and The Killers on the pyramid stage. They were joined by Pet Shop Boys and Johnny Marr. Great music! Also Georgia with her electronic drums. Very entertaining. I love the music but I have never done camping. Much prefer the feet up and a glass of wine at home or live rock bands at the NEC.

Spot on Shirley, as an avid gig goer, I can't stand for hours on end nowadays, and prefer arena concerts with seating.

Festivals were fine in the 60's and 70's, but I can't stand being cold, wet, hungry or away from a comfy bed.

Last festival was the Download in the  mid 80's. Whitesnake, AC / DC and Slade. Oh, and I could drive home to bed.

Monsters of Rock 1981 Fly2..

Caught a NCT bus from Vic Centre about 10.30am.

You forgot to mention Blackfoot! Slade lifted the mood..Blackfoot for me, stole the show .& the first Can flight of the day during Train Train. Reading Festival was my 'local' attended all 77-83 so can fights, were 'the norm'

Do you recall having a major wait

before AC/DC came on? Think the day ran over by about 2 hours..good stuff was having a fantastic time!

Also recall while leaving the site a bespoke pig on a spitroast and telegraph poles being burnt down..not by me I might add.

NCT busses back to Vic Centre..hope the drivers got overtime.

Yes, that was it HSR. Monsters of Rock. Still got the T shirt somewhere. Can't remember the long wait, but the alcohol intake was taking effect by then. The four of us had taken twenty litres of homemade wine between us, and loads of cans. Even the odd showers didn't spoil it.

Festival sets should be only one hour, in order to get a bit of variety, but concerts or club gigs can go on indefinitely for me.

Rory Gallagher regularly did 2 and 3/4 hours. You couldn't get him off stage at times !

Regarding set times, I think they had it right in the 70-80's. Roughly 30 mins openers rising to 45 mins mid set, third on the bill 1 hour, second 80 mins. Headliners full set.. 100 mins to 2 hours plus.

Radford Red, 45 mins wouldn't leave much time after a Bonzo drum solo!;)

I have no way of knowing if this is fact or fiction but a music forum mate

attended a Deep Purple gig at the Nottingham Ice Stadium roughly 2006, Styx were supporting and had tech problems, thus show running 20 -30 mins late. Deep Purple had to shorten thier solos to complete the set list in the specified time. Every minute they ran over incurred a fine, unlikely to bother them, simply running over the allotted time wasn't an option.

Went to a couple of Glastonbury's 1983-86 , for me the best performers were off the main stages.. Courtney Pine! Never heard of him previously. MeltonStilton..recall Hawkwind at Stonehenge was it '84?.

In a similar vein Nostell Priory about '82 Jethro Tull. & Acid days at Finsbury Park again Hawkwind.

Remember seeing shirley bassey at glastonbury on TV not actually at the concert ,nice to an oldie still belting out tune ,

Would have loved to seen Bonnie Raitt perfoming one of my personal favorite artist , but i am afraid my open toe sandals ain't gonna cope with that squelching mud !

Used to go through Glastonbury on the national express coach on the way to Devon on holiday , some eccentric looking people living there !

I listened to McCartney whilst lying in bed. He got off to a very slow start with tuneless dirges that the young audience had never heard of. I've just read that it improved towards the end but I was asleep by then and the timer had switched him off.
