At the bottom of King Street in the city centre a new cafe/restaurant has opened. It's called Bill's.

I'd never heard of them before but they are a national chain http://bills-website.co.uk/

I'll bet the people who run the company don't realise they've now opened a branch of Bill's in the city where his mother lives.

I hadn't heard about Harry Ramsden's but the Fopp music store - just up the road in the same block - may be pushed out to make way for another food place.

And there are still several empty units along that stretch of road.

Trying to picture where this building is situated, is it below the old Post Office? I don't recognize it, it's a nice looking building, what did it used to be?

Apologies folk re #3, senior moments cutting in! It wasn't Harry Ramsdens,( think they've packed in,) but Georges that someone said had been interested in a unit in the old Post Office. If it's true, then there'll be both Bill and George vying for custom.

Lots of memories in that building, I worked as a PO engineer in the 70's and that used to be our head office,I did a complicate electrical re fit there too.

We used to park our vans down the yard at the rear entrance. The engineering department later moved to new premises on Little Tennis street, Daleside road.

Things have changed quite a bit around there, but I think that yard/rear entrance was down this alley, if you can still recognise it. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.955001,-1.150888,3a,75y,144.35h,89.94t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sI9VLMk2gHbXiMKlKapGlBg!2e0?hl=en
