Cliff Ton 10,458
From the days before nationalisation..........you don't get quaint language like this in adverts now. I fancy the idea of going to an electric cookery demonstration on a Wednesday afternoon.
LizzieM 9,507
That's reminded me that in 1967 I went for an interview at the Electricity Council in Nottingham. I didn't get the job and I can't even remember where they were in town, well maybe they were somewhere near the Ice Stadium? What would they have done? The Electricity Board on Carrington Street ((later to become EMEB and based in Arnold) was not the same organisation.
Braddy 160
This reminds me when you got a rebate when the the gas /elec man came to empty the meter and count it out on the table. When did this finish?
catfan 14,793
This was before Rip Off Britain was born. When OAPs didn't die in winter due to the cold weather. Gas & Electric were affordable.
Bubblewrap 3,815
You've got M.T. & her cronies to thank for that

Limey 242
Not sure that it was really any cheaper back then - all things considered. But I do remember thinking how cheap gas and electricity were when I came to the States in 1978!
colly0410 1,181
I wonder how long a shilling (5 pence piece) would last in the leccie meter now? Our electric direct debit is £30 a month so that'd be about twenty shillings a day, almost one an hour..
bamber 128
Imagine what life would be like if we had to provide enough town gas for most houses to have central-heating and plentiful hot water on tap. The whole of Nottingham would be one giant gasworks.
