Ayupmeducks 1,730
What happened to your story Michael?? Not only tanners used to pay for pee!! Dyers did too. There were alum mines in the cliffs of north Yorks, below the alum was boiled with pee to make a "fix" for cloth dyers. Pee was also used to make explosives and believe it or not used as bleach in making whites whiter on washday.... I'm sure there were other uses for it.
Michael Booth 7,364
I found that it had been done before so I had to change it, Ayupmeducks. I therefore had to quickly find something else.

MELTONSTILTON 452
History is not boring, its school history teachers that make it boring
Bilbraborn 1,594
A few years ago I started to study the history of the area I was living in. Thinking there was nothing of interest. What!!?? It just got too addictive. I would recommend it but don't think that nothing ever happens in quiet places. It may not always have been like that.
Michael Booth 7,364
That's so true, Bilbraborn. I found that out when I joined Nottstalgia.
benjamin1945 16,118
I loved History at school (and still do) i think it was down to a brilliant Teacher at Padstow Mr Bett, who was a bit of an eccentric,he tended to mix History with Geography and Politics and that made it all the more interesting,it certainly gave me the bug for all three,.Thankyou Mr Bett. BulwellBrian 107
I think that history is more of an interest at a post school age.
Bilbraborn 1,594
At school you have to stick to what is being taught. In your own time you can go for whatever you find interesting.
Cliff Ton 10,435
The older you get, the more history there is.
Rob.L 1,084
Unless you see what kids study. What they are taught as history, we would class as current affairs!
benjamin1945 16,118
Thats true Rob,but we only got as far as WW1 at our Sec.Mod,never mind current affairs.
Rob.L 1,084
WW1 was the limit for me, too. This is an example of what they cover in GCSE History now... Why the Hillman Imp couldn't compete with the Mini. http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/zj64q6f

StephenFord 866
Actually, the Hillman Imp did compete with the Mini. It lost!
Bubblewrap 3,815
The Imp had it's engine in the rear so you could warm your hands while pushing it.
Rob.L 1,084
A friend of mine and his girlfriend, both 6ft tall, did their courting in his Imp. The opening rear window made certain activities easier. I won't elaborate why....
