BeestonMick 263
Can anyone remember the name of the music shop on Mansfield Road? I think it used to be about halfway up. I used to do a lot of repairs for them at one time but I just don't recall the name of it. They were the main stockists for Boosey and Hawkes.

TBI 2,351
I can remember the shop, used to have saxophones in the window. It was about where Dave Mann's is now, possibly the same shop ( but not Manns ). I can't remember the name at the moment but it might come, I knew most of the main music shops. BeestonMick 263
I just Googled Dave Mann and they're talking about 40 years in business, I think I'm talking a few years more. Supposedly it was the predecessors to Dave Mann? Yes, they used to have all sorts of brass, woodwind and string instruments in the window and lot's of stuff inside. Dave Mann seems to focus on guitar. The guy I dealt with in the shop was a very good guitarist and if it had been quiet on a Friday afternoon they'd shut up shop half an hour early. I'd turn up with whatever it was I'd repaired and end up on the drums jamming. I cannot play drums, I'd like it if I could but I can't. I would've liked to be able to play guitar like him n'all! TBI 2,351
I didn't think Dave Mann's been at that same site on Mansfield Rd for forty years. Could be wrong though. Basfordred mentioned knowing him in another thread, he might know. Anyways, no joy remembering your places name yet.
FLY2 10,108
I think it has been about 40 years. I drank heavily with Dave, Pat, Ted and Vic. Mid to late 60's. By God, we had some do's. We had many good sing songs at parties . Dave was very good on the mandolin.
BeestonMick 263
Any idea who was there before? I seem to remember it was a family business, the owners were a bit like the Fawlty's.
FLY2 10,108
No idea Mick, but it was always in a shambolic state as far as I'm aware. Dave got it after I lost touch with him in the early 70's. Therefore it would be over 40 years..

The Pianoman 1,532
It might have been where Jack Brentnall started out. I remember the shop well enough and I have trying to think what the shops name was since the thread started 'cos I should know. I have gone blank on it - its me age yer 'no! Cliff Ton 10,464
Brentnall's was next to the County Hotel, Theatre Square.

TBI 2,351
Yes, Jack Brentnall's was on end of Goldsmith St for donkey's years. I bought an Eko Ranger from there 1968.
