Well at last I have managed to see the Diabetes Specialist Nurse and it's good news My last sugar reading was classed as "normal, no further action needed" which is fantastic, but of course there i

So, as many now know, cos i don't keep a lot to myself, I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. At this time I do not need medication and have been told to try and control it by diet and

Annual diabetes check up last week and am so pleased to report that I am still technically diabetes free. Official note from doctor on blood tests was "no further action needed" I am now 18 months fr

Well done Catfan. Pleased to hear you are managing to control your glucose levels. That's always the tricky one. I'm hoping that mine are still ok (though I did have some chips today...first time since I was diagnosed...but with a healthy dollop of salad and veggie lasagne, so the absorption should have been slowed down a bit I hope), I don't have the means to check my glucose levels after a meal, so I am trusting to instinct now as I have also stopped counting carbs, just trying to eat sensibly. December will tell.

Well, wouild you believe it ! Saw the diabetes nurse 8 weeks ago & narrowly escaped Insulin Injections by having one last go on medication.

Having read Darkazana's thread i thought there has to hope for me yet, so I changed one or two things around.

Out went the chocolate, cakes, crisps fruit juice, cereal & as much bread as possible. I started to lose some weight nice & steady, all looking good so far. Still enjoyed my Hobgoblin though !!

Having a good diabetes nurse made a world of difference, making the changes easier re advice etc.

Went for a blood test last week & been patiently waiting for a phone call from the nurse ever since, today I recieved the call.

Hello Catfan, good news, you're HbA1c has come down from 76 to 49, whatever you are doing don't change anything !

Previous blood glucose level 11.6mmo/L now ................6.1mmo/L.

One tablet I have been told to stop taking it & in three months if all still well then we can reduce your other medication as well !

Other benefits are I have lost 11 lbs of weight & I feel absolutely great.

Praise the Lord !

Had some good news today !

I recieved a phone call fron the Diabetes Nurse at lunchtime, one of the things my blood test checked the other day was my HbAic this accurately measures blood glucose levels over a period of time, very accurate measurement. Three months ago was 76 then a few weeks ago down to 49 & today's offering was good as well, now 43 ! down to pre-diabetic levels. Weight also down 14 lbs or 1 stone.

The upshot was to try now WITHOUT any medication for Diabertes at all :jumping:

To say I was well chuffed would be an understatement, I & Mrs Catfan are well pleased ! Of course she says it's all down to her nursing skills etc, but we know it's down to the secret magical properties of Hobgoblin !! I didn't have the the heart to spoil her day.

Got to have another blood test next Monday, something not quite right, but now I know the magical cure I can't see a problem !!

Many thanks to darkazana for her help & encouragement. It is much appreciated. thumbsup

Such great news Catfan, sorry I missed your post #40 at the time, but it is so encouraging to know that with watching your diet you can come off the medication.

Keep up the good work.

I'm hoping my next check up in December shows I am still in the "normal" range. I have managed to maintain my weight so hopefully my sugar levels are the same too. As we have moved house I will be changing surgery too so may be due a check up earlier, fortunately I have learned that the new surgery has a diabetes specialist nurse, so will be registering there in a couple of weeks.

Yeah - I was diagnosed as Type 2 recently and I am one two tablets a day and trying to control my weight. I get a little exercise as I worked part time 16 hours per week. They booked me in at Wasitline and over two months I have managed to lose 4 kilo but have a long way to go. They also sent me on a cookery course at Sure Start. We were all old codgers single men on the course and we cooked portions we could and should eat. One chap ate what he cooked then called in at the chippie on the way home!!!

It can be done parmitage, as Catfan has shown. Good luck, 4kg weight loss is a great start. A pound a week is a good target, and even a gentle stroll in the evening can help with the exercise. My doctor told me to aim for 6000 steps a day, my husband helped with this by getting me a Fitbit. This monitors your steps and calorie use. It has been a great help to me.

If you have any good recipes from your course you could perhaps share them with us on here, so that others can try them out.

we made and cooked cottage pie, burgers, pizzas and a stir fry and chicken cuirry. I will have a chat with the whiz kids at work and see about putting the recipes on line for you - I have to admit it I have not tried them on my own.

I live in a 2nd floor flat so each time I go out I have two sets of steps so I guess that helps with exercise. I am thinking of going to some afternoon dances too - do I have to wear black tie and medals I wonder?

Best wishes

Peter
