pogra8 0
Has anyone seen these marks on kerbing, brickwork, etc Can only describe them as a v with a line in the middle. I have been seeing these for years. One on granite kerb outside tescos near midland station.
tomlinson 879
Couldn't possibly be a government supply 'boad arrow', could it? How long has the kerbing been there?
philmayfield 6,089
These are Ordnance Survey bench marks to calculate heights from a known reference point. Probably obsolete now with GPS. Phil

NewBasfordlad 3,599
Something like a 'trig point' then, bet they don't use them anymore either.
plantfit 7,534
Think they might be called spot heights Rog

Robbie 39
#3 Spot On. And all the Ordnance Survey Bench Marks are set from Newlyn in Cornwall.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
GPS is NOT accurate enough for surveying purposes, any surveyor will tell you this, a good surveyor will be spot on, GPS is only accuarate for within around one foot for military GPS and within a yard or so for civilian GPS. I used to know the tolerances, But the marks as other posters stated, survey bench marks.
LizzieM 9,497
We have one on our garden wall
Ayupmeducks 1,730
We had them all over underground, but they were sprayed on the roof with paint, with a circle around the survey pin.

Compo 10,326
You could draw a reasonably accurate contour map with that little lot!
