He's gone to Join Brian Johnstone (Johnners) of "The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey" fame.

John Arlott and Jim Laker. All of whom I still miss.

Does anyone else think he looked like Parker, Lady Penelope's butler?

I had the honour of meeting Richie at Trent Bridge in the days of the 16 service. He was in the adjoining BBC box. He was a perfect gentleman and a delight to spend a few minutes with.

Gentleman is an oft misused word. In Richie's case it epitomised the man.

I also met John Arlott. When asked for he autograph he responded "only if you call me sir " .

I remember seeing him when the Australians were playing at Trent Bridge and he and the rest of the team were viisiting Gunn & Moore. Spelt right and does the company still exist?
