siddha 825
A couple of years slog and got this 4L Sunbeam rolling running. Bodywork next............... https://youtu.be/pBJwC1qs1mA
radfordred 6,284
Spotted Wollaton Road a 21 year old classic? future classic? You don’t see many around, I had one for about 5 days & flogged it.
philmayfield 6,115
Strange to say but the older Ford models are becoming quite collectible by enthusiasts. True classics like E Types and big Healeys have gone through the roof on prices. An E Type convertible can command around £150,000 and the coupes £100,000. There must be some money around. Have a look at the prices of cars on Sherwood Restoration’s in Southwell website. You’ll see my old Lotus but the mileage is understated by 2000.
Cliff Ton 10,457
Re; recent classics. When did you last see a Sierra ? I don't think of them as being very old, but they've all disappeared.
philmayfield 6,115
There’s a website called ‘How Many Left’. Enter the make and model of the car and all will be revealed.
siddha 825
Sadly not a reliable site for cars registered before 1972.
philmayfield 6,115
Thanks. I wasn't aware of that.
Rob.L 1,088
The whole “classic car” market has gone barmy. Cars from the 70s and 80s that were barely even worth scrap value after three years are now going for silly money. How about seven grand for a Morris Marina 1300? https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1309038
philmayfield 6,115
I had a Marina. A 1.8 TC. It was rubbish then and its still rubbish. Who in God's name would want to buy one. I can see the appeal of old sports cars and even old Jags and the like, but run of the mill hacks - no way!
Brew 5,408
At a garage in Waltham on the Wolds in 1965 I was offered a Jaguar XK150s for £250. That was about 6 months wages and a quote for insurance was more than that... a lot more!
philmayfield 6,115
I nearly bought an E Type 20 years ago for £11,000. Just the colour, duck egg blue, that put me off.
roger peatman 337
I bought my first E Type in 1972 for £350 - kept it for a year then swapped it for a Buick Riviera. - If only !!! It is still on the database CNT 925C - I wonder if the car survived ?
philmayfield 6,115
I did have an F Type a few years ago. In three years and 12000 miles it went back to the dealership eight times with problems. It was going to be a keeper but I got rid as soon as the warranty expired. I was very disappointed. roger peatman 337
I'd like an F type, but a bit out of my price range. I've still got an old XKR ,which is about as close as I'll get to an F Type.
Stuart.C 491
CNT 925C (blue) is on the DVLA database showing tax due December 1980, but new V5 issued April 1987.
philmayfield 6,115
I quite fancy another Caterham 7. I built one from a kit about 25 years ago. My only problem is could I still get in and out of one? There are no doors. I sold my Lotus Elise because of access difficulties. Now my hip's done and I'm flexible again I might give one a try. Really, at my age, I should be past wanting to play with interesting cars!
IAN FINN 807
In 1970 i bought a 1963 Chev Impala from an american car dealer in Leicester the registration number was 675 EUT can anyone find out if it is still around? It should be a classic by now only going up in value.
Rob.L 1,088
Doesn’t look like it, Ian. That reg isn’t on the MOT web site, or on the insurance (AskMID) web site either.
radfordred 6,284
Spotted In Basford, bit of T-Cut, sorted.
The Pianoman 1,532
Overriders are on the wrong sides. Where in Basford is this to be viewed?
swe62 334
I was talked into selling both my Rover P4,s and now regret not keeping one,I needed the lucre to rebuild my model T project, I will have another one when I can ,I never rated them until I rebuilt my first one , I think they are the best made classic car of the lot
Brew 5,408
I had a P4 way back when but struggled to keep it running properly. The gearbox leaked but had the advantage that the passenger could top it up from inside the car as we drove along. The overdrive never did work and I couldn't afford a Rover exhaust so I made one, I forget how many exhaust clamps I used but it was a lot!
Rob.L 1,088
Doesn’t need T-Cut. That patina probably doubles its value. Likely worth around five grand as-is in today’s market.
Brew 5,408
Seriously doubt it Rob... look on CarandClassic site..
The Pianoman 1,532
P4 Rovers are not big money cars.
