Forty odd years go whilst courting the ex wife I took her on a rowing boat down the trent embankment, who remembers those ?

Rowing away we came across a bit of a crowd on the bank watching a car being lifted out of the water by crane. It transpired that a bloke driving along the embankment the previous November in heavy fog lost his way & ended up in the water.

This car, a Mk 1 ford Escort in white had been in the water for nine months complete with missing driver, or what was left of him.

A tarpaulin was put over the car to stop the ghouls taking a look, after all this was a hot august sunday afternoon !

A chap I know dragged a big Mercedes out of the Trent, dried it out and ran it for years.

Once lost a Cortina, parked it on a street, went shopping, came back a couple hours later to where I thought I'd parked it..Oh dear or words similar, scratched my head, hmmm. Was looking in the wrong street...

I once parked my car at the bus depot in Bulwell one Saturday morning, finished my shift & the car had gone, (Mk 2 Cortina).

Sunday teatime was driving along Vernon Road with brother in law & my car passed us !

We followed my car into the Oxford pub car park & lets say we had a quiet word in the driver's ear !

I went home in my Cortina.

Is that the body they found inside after they dredged it out?

Just shows how they deteriorate.
