OrphanAnnie 296
I heard that moth balls were good for keeping stray cats out of the garden? I have a big problem with them depositing parcels, tried pepper and orange peel but that hasn't worked.
katyjay 5,090
That's what I took the mothballs over for, cat deterrent.
catfan 14,793
Why deter the moggies ?
katyjay 5,090
I know, I know, we love our moggies, but apparently gardeners don't.
tomlinson 879
We used to make butter/cheese in a bottle with milk and something, not sure what, and the girls made scent by putting rose petals with water in a bottle.
Compo 10,328
DAveN #127: The Wilko mothballs are made from cedar wood and will not deter cats. Real mothballs are made from Naphthelene: "Naphthalene is an organic compound with formula C 10H8. It is the simplest polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, and is a white crystalline solid with a characteristic odor that is detectable at concentrations as low as 0.08 ppm by mass.[12] As an aromatic hydrocarbon, naphthalene's structure consists of a fused pair of benzene rings. It is best known as the main ingredient of traditional mothballs." [Wikipedia] They actually do the job - hence they are banned.
