Oztalgian 3,271
StephenFord and Chulla Thanks for the information. Yes, a bright metal circular thing with a grill. I can see how the heater would work from the engine cooling water on the MGO buses but how did it work on a trolley bus? Was it like a single bar electric fire or something similar? catfan 14,793
That round thing is a heater. Heat generated from the electric motor !
The Pianoman 1,532
OK, it's at Sandtoft but a nice clean good quality bit of film of 506. It's a bit too clean though compared to how I remember them!
notty ash 370
The driving is a bit gentle too, compared to what I remember. Acceleration could be particularly brisk at times!
DaveN 1,118
There's a book that was released in November about Nottingham trolleybuses which might be of interest. https://www.middletonpress.co.uk/books/trolleybuses/nottingham-trolleybuses.html
The Pianoman 1,532
Another short and sweet bit of Nottingham trolley bus film has turned up on YouTube:
catfan 14,793
Nice one Malc, looks like th 44 Bulwell Hall Terminus !
Cliff Ton 10,459
The second part - from about 11 seconds onwards - is driving in and out of Sneinton along Sneinton Hermitage, when the railway arches were still there.
notty ash 370
Doesn't look quite right for the Bulwell Hall terminus
catfan 14,793
It certainly is, I've spent hours at that terminus ! Driving 44 buses. That garage was Billy Bell's & was taken over by his son when he retired. The video shows the 44 route from Bulwell Hall as far as Sneinton Hermitage en route for Colwick Crossing terminus. Cliff Ton 10,459
Is it this place, which has featured in various other threads ?
Paulus 541
That's definitely the 44 terminus, out of shot to the right would be The Swinger, was there also a cobblers next to the garage?
The Pianoman 1,532
In my Trent days that was always referred to as City Boundary
notty ash 370
What puzzles me is all the trees in the video. I don't remember any at the Bulwell Hall Terminus - or the canteen bus parked there
catfan 14,793
You are quite right notty ash & I am wrong ! The picture is at the Colwick Road terminus, NOT Bulwell Hall as I said. The canteen bus gave it away. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9511205,-1.1173662,3a,75y,144.95h,84.32t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-Tp_bxcaMxPz_BTHvIFV2Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en
notty ash 370
I never saw the Colwick Road terminus when there were trolley buses, so wasn't sure - but I used the 44 terminus at Bulwell Hall quite regularly until around 1966.
Paulus 541
I stand corrected!! after further look it definitely isn't the 44 terminus, apologies!!
Cliff Ton 10,459
Clearly a Nottingham trolley bus, but does anybody recognise the location ? Looks like an end-of-route turnaround.
catfan 14,793
Hooton Road Carlton. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9670868,-1.1047656,3a,75y,308.33h,89.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slA9Mg9qD50U6oT6lE-phew!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en
Bubblewrap 3,815
#44 A friend of my parents lived in one of the houses at the back of the bus.
StephenFord 866
The only place on the Nottingham system (I think) where trolleybuses reversed to turn round, as opposed to having a turning circle. I am given to understand there was a skill/art to reversing a trolleybus over connections without de-wiring, and possibly pulling all the knitting down out of the sky ! Enigma. 1,533
need some help to clarify the exact location of the bus- its suppose to be turning onto haydn road but from which junction ? as that doesnt look like the star inn pub or robin hood pub to the right hand side although it looks like it says home ales on the stonework - i can just make out that the sign hanging up reads midland bank - the wall to the left looks like the one on the corner of nottingham road though
Cliff Ton 10,459
I don't think trolleybuses ever went along Haydn Road, so you'd need to consider another option. A few ideas in the first post here http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7151
catfan 14,793
They never did, the low railway bridge would not of helped very much
