MXQ Quad Core Android 4.4 TV Box ?

Is Navi-X preloaded Mick?? Also load fusion, has hundreds of "links" that you can apply..Navi-X platform hosts sports, movies you name it, but as bobby2jags says, you need a fast connection to prevent buffering.

I'm still using the Matricom G Box midnight 2 stb, only has a dual core, but I do run Kodi as the main platform.

Next year might order the Matricom Q box, that's a quad core stb.

I see the MXQ is a knock off of the Matricom Q box............

That happened with the G box, lot of disappointed people when the things went tits up and no backup..

"jailbroken" is an old term used in the Apple and Apple11 era Mick, just means the operating software has been "opened" to allow programming. The Apple 111 to my knowledge hasn't been jail broken.

Apple lost a lot of business to the other set top box makers, as they used open source software.

Incidently, I checked the specs of the MXQ, it only has 1 gig of ram, whereas most of the other makes have 2 gigs of ram, but for the price it's not too bad.

You can add an external hard drive to down load movies to when you're on Navi-X, that's where I obtained some 1000 movies from, for later viewing, I've never been able to download anything from any other site using the G box, Apple2 didn't have any USB ports. The card reader slot you'll need for further programming, but you can down load files in Kodi.

Suggest you use Youtube to watch the "how to" videos on Kodi and how to add more programming.. It's not hard.

Had an Emish Android box (recommended) for Yonks which saves me £90/month. As far as the software being opened, it was never closed. The fully loaded variety just means all the most popular apps are already loaded so you don't have to bother. If you need to know how to install apps just search "add porn to kodi" for example, there are tons of youtube 'how to' vids. I also bought a USB keyboard for a tenner which makes the whole thing a lot easier. Somebody told me there's the possibility to watch 100,000,000 million movies, that could well take a lifetime.

Works with most modern TV's, as long as it has RYB connection or better still HDMI.

Beeston Mick, with an internet STB, it's possible to watch virtually every movie ever made, virtually every TV show ever made, someone somewhere has uploaded movies and TV shows to some server somewhere in the world.

I used to like Max Mustermans app, used to get nearly everything, he used servers in the Far East to evade authorities taking them down, he was arrested two years back in NZ for copyright infringements with an FBI warrant. Not heard anything about him since.

His was probably the best site to visit to watch movies, from old silent B&W to movies not yet released, "screeners".

Being on a DSL connection of a max 1.5Mbs, I usually have to download movies to a hard drive to avoid buffering when I want to watch them.

The specs are on Amazon, or a search for the individual STB's Mick, I know this is US Amazon, but to find the specs, click on each different one, then lower down that page is the full specs.

As regards, must have is what you want?? Find out the reviews on the certain one that catches your eye, there are reviews both on Youtube and various sites on the internet.

How I found out about the Matricoms, was I was searching for a replacement for my Apple TV2, as mine got smoked by a lightning strike. Apple 2's were fetching far more than I originally paid for my smoked unit, so started looking around for another brand.

What sold me on the Matricom, was their customer backup and money back guarantee if I didn't like it, on their site is a forum to discuss all sorts about past and present Matricom boxes. There is also an archive for software downloads.

Personally, I use and recommend an emish box (amazon uk) but, as you say, there are hundreds of 'em. If you want fully loaded add that to your search. Basically, quad core with as much memory as you can find. My box does the bizz.

For £40, what the hey. If it doesn't suit you in three months time you've saved £260 in Sky bills.

I bought my origonal Matricom, then a second one for the bedroom, but after Christmas we will be ordering the q box from them, quad core 2 gigs of sdram and the reviews are red hot on it's perfermance.

We went through a thread a couple of years back about android set top boxes.

1Gb is the absolute minimum Mick!! The more the better, it needs the ram to help prevent buffering.

As the technology improves I can see the boxes having more and more ram, or an external plug in ram module.

Yes Navi-X is a "plug in" that is downloaded from the internet, check on youtube to see how easy it is to add apps, some are done direct by going into "systems" and just loading the url of the site that has the upgrades, others are loaded in via a zip file you download to your computer and load to a memory card, plug that into the box and download the zip file in "systems" The box will "unzip" the file.

Catfan, there is no way you can load things to an external hard drive with those. I won't buy any device these days without at least two USB ports, HDMI port, card slots etc. Mine has four USB ports, one is used for the WiFi keyboard, two are used for external hard drives and one is a spare.

Having a slow internet connection, I can queue several movie downloads before I go to bed and have them downloaded to an external hard drive over night.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought one now, and just getting my head round it.

At first I thought it was not going to work, but now I am getting it set up and apps istalled, I am watching more and more stuff.

At 12:15 this morning came across a documentary program on Alaska Railroad, so had to watch it as I probably would never have found it again.

Just added 'Classic Cinema' app to Kodi, this has some fantastic movies and serials from the 30s and 40s including some we saw as kids at the

Saturday morning kids cinemas. One that I have been looking for, for years, Captain Marvel, but came up as currently being uploaded to new server.

Any recommended apps?

Load Navi-X, absolutely loaded with sports and movies. You can also download movies from Navi-X, queue them before going to bed, you will need an external hard drive for doanloading movies though, but well worth it..Stay away from "cams" they are movies someone has recorded at the cinema with a vid camera, stick with "rips" and screeners. Screeners are brand new movies not yet released, they are sent out to video stores for the owners to see and maybe order.
